About a vampire stuck on a ship who ends up in New Orleans

My friend read this book around 1995. It was an adult fiction about a vampire stuck on a ship. There was also a woman who tried to impress him by cutting someone's throat and drinking so much of the blood that she threw up.

The vampire gets knocked loose from being under debris in a sunken ship and drains everyone on the boat that disturbed him and ends up in New Orleans he gets a young female acolyte but he also get somebody else that he turns before her and it makes her jealous she uses a razor knife to cut a kids throat in a cemetery and drink all of his blood the thing that really stuck out to me about it other than the good writing is that when the blood teeth came down behind the other teeth they clicked into place and they reference the noise of them doing so
