Issues with adding authors

Hi! I'm a new librarian, and I seem to be having a bit of an issue adding secondary authors to books.
Every time I click "add new author", enter his or her name/role and click "save changes", it doesn't save. Any other change I make works just fine though, which is interesting. Has anyone else had this problem?
Am I doing something wrong? I'm a little embarrassed to ask this because it seems like the most straightforward thing to do
