Opening chapter begins well. Cal clearly has quite definite plans/ideas, and the dilemma that will inevitably caused by the revelation about his dad hints at future issues.

"I click the button lock and dash to my headphones. I pressplay on the cassette deck and let the sounds pump through,
blocking out the shouting and the expectations and my
frustrations.
I block it all out."

Up to ch13. Totally agree that this is a nice break from the real world right now. Not totally convinced by the Cal/Leon thing.

Up to ch22. That revelation doesn’t surprise me, but Cal’s naïveté really seems to come from nowhere. Wouldn’t you be just a little suspicious?
Finished. Review on home page. More to this than I expected. Cute for the most part, but the backdrop was not what drew me in.

Chp 6His gaze meets mine, and an ache pulls at my chest, reminding me of Jeremy, of Deb. Of crushes, and of falling.
cuuuuuuttteeeee 😍❤❤
chp 7But the line between sweet and creepy is especially thin when crushes are concerned, and there’s only so long two people can stand in silence before it gets weird.
lmaaaooo
“Wow … it must feel good to know exactly what you want.” well someone said it.......has to be the most relatable thing everr

Amidst the chaos, Cal meets sensitive and mysterious Leon, another “Astrokid,” and finds himself falling head over heels—fast. As the frenzy around the mission grows, so does their connection. But when secrets about the program are uncovered, Cal must find a way to reveal the truth without hurting the people who have become most important to him.
Expertly capturing the thrill of first love and the self-doubt all teens feel, debut author Phil Stamper is a new talent to watch.
