The details are a bit jumbled. I can remember the book is about a man (middle-aged?) with a daughter in her late teens/early twenties. He works in the mines where there are monsters (or the underworld?). His daughter is eventually trapped in these mines/underworld, and he has to go down to rescue her.
I can remember a few scenes:
- One scene is where the man is going down to the mines/underworld area (I believe it is a hybrid, as in he works as a miner but in the mines there are creatures that sometimes drag miners and the deeper in you go the more monsters there are?) with some of his coworkers. I believe that if you looked at the monsters you were dragged in, and he describes his coworkers at some point in his journey
- Another is with the man returning home from work only to find a girl in his house. After some conversation it is revealed that this girl is his daughter. There might have been some rivalry with their jobs
SPOILERS AHEAD (TWO MINOR AND ONE MAJOR)
- There was another POV from a dead man that resided in the underworld-esque place. He is introduced in the later half of the novel (I believe while he is tending his garden?). Anyway, he ultimately helps the girl and his father
- The man goes down in search of his daughter, and there is a scene where there is a large pile of dead men/skeletons and one of the bodies talks to him
- MAJOR SPOILER: The daughter ends up stuck in the mine/underworld, so she can no longer leave. I believe it might have been to save her father, or perhaps because she ate something? I'm not too sure, but she is definitely stuck there in the end
That's all I can remember. Would be grateful for any help!
