Naaaw! I've gotta whittle it down...just not sure by how much and which ones.

HomeInMyShoes I was looking at this one and I think I got the list down to 30. I lumped crime into mystery, dystopia into post apocalyptic, philosophy with religion, removed translated and award winners as those aren't genres and span everything. I also dropped romance down to just romance and erotica and pushed paranormal and supernatural together like the unbelieving heathen I am.i've got the list on my other computer and I'm thinking it is a 2016 potential challenge.

Oooh. Let me see your list.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I've just smushed Dystopia + Post-Apocalyptic, Juvenile Fiction + Young Adult and I got rid of some which I can't remember.

I'm going to remove "secular" since that is everything not religious.

Okay that looks much more manageable! Its still about 3 or 4 more categories than what I'm attempting this year.

Best wishes!! :)

LOL Yeah, I was trying to figure out a way to include religious and non-religious counter-genre for nonfiction. That was the best I could come up with without going with "atheist" which I felt was a little too specific. /unnecessary explanation

That's what I was thinking...but since we really aren't using the same book in multiple categories...

message 10: by HomeInMyShoes (last edited Jan 08, 2015 08:10AM) (new)

HomeInMyShoes Okay, I promised what my list looked like. I'm thinking I might do this in 2016. At least right now I am and I am bound to change my mind at least twelve times before January. I put the similar categories I lumped into it, or at least why I may have eliminated them from the list. I dropped Foreign and Award Winner entirely because any category could be those and I read a lot of Foreign. Seriously. Look at my lists of books read.

Adventure (Survival)
Classics (Victorian)
Drama
Humour
Poetry
Philosophy/Religion
Science - NonFiction
Biography/Memoir
Chick-Lit
Erotica
Romance
Mystery (Crime)
Thriller
True Crime
Science Fiction
Dystopian / Post-Apocalyptic
Space Opera
Steampunk
Horror
Gothic
Zombies
Fantasy
Folklore & Mythology
Paranormal / Supernatural (Urban Fantasy)
Historical Fiction
Pulp Fiction
Young Adult / Juvenile
Western
Literary Fiction
Magical Realism

It's a list of 30 which I think leaves space for people to get sidetracked over the year and still finish the challenge.

Oooh. This is nice. I'm gonna have to look this over & compare with mine. If I can knock mine down some...it becomes slightly possible.

HomeInMyShoes I was hoping for 26, but the last four is tricky and I even skipped Graphic Novel which is a pretty worthy category. I might be tempted to mush Drama and Poetry together and include Graphic Novel to remain at 30.

That could work, esp if you do dramatic poetry.

Graphic novel would then set you up for Saga!

message 14: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Haha. Pusher. :)

When you said Saga, I first thought Icelandic Saga because I am tempted to read one of those as crazy as that sounds.

:-D

I'm just here to help.

message 16: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Oh, include Graphic Novel!!!

(I may be a bit biased...)

message 17: by Laurel (new)

Laurel You make a point. I used a graphic novel for one of my genre categories...

message 18: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes But overthinking is what this is all about. :)

I like the idea of ignoring formats, but I am not likely to choose Poetry or Drama if looking for something to read so I I'm keeping them and adding Graphic Novels to my list while removing Classics to remain at 30. I like this challenge a lot. I'm not doing it this year, but it might end up being next year's challenge.

I love watching your challenges. That map was amazing.

message 20: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes ^That last challenge was insane. The map was fun, but that was draining. The stans just about killed me.

HomeInMyShoes Woohoo! I feel like I haven't finished a book in forever. It has actually been four days. My pages per day is definitely starting to drop off now. Lucky to get 40 or 50 in a day now.

I've been reading again and its driving hubby bananas. He keeps wanting me to do stuff.

I AM doing stuff. I'm reading. It requires a stationary position.
