Short Story about a Jewish man who's turned into a vampire, chased out of his home town, & becomes a Golem-like protector in another town.

Basically it is in a way a retelling of The Golem but with the main character being a vampire instead of a being created from mud by a Rabbi.

A young Jewish man is attacked and turned into a vampire and the people of his own town run him out. But the Rabbi of another town uses his knowledge to convince the people to all donate to feed the vampire in turn for him agreeing to protect him. Just like in The Golem a bunch of "Christians" decide to frame Jewish people for the murder of Christian children and the vampire exposes the truth of the Blood Lie. Story ends with a reference to WWII suggesting the vampire still lived there and rescued the Torah scrolls when Nazis set fire to the Synagog.

It was in a collection of short vampire stories but I can't remember any of the other stories in that book. Besides which, it could appear in any number of short story paranormal fiction books.
