Shari-amor | 5275 comments Fang Kattalakis isn't just a wolf. He is the brother of two of the most powerful members of the Omegrion: the ruling council that enforces the laws of the Were-Hunters. And when war erupts among the lycanthropes, sides must be chosen. Enemies are forced into shaky alliances. And when the woman Fang loves is accused of betraying her people, her only hope is that Fang believes in her. Yet in order to save her, Fang must break the law of his people and the faith of his brothers. That breech could very well spell the end of both their races and change their world forever.

The war is on and time is running out...

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments I enjoyed this book a lot. It does take a bit of careful reading to fully understand how much time passes in the book--and I can certainly see how that would confuse and bother many readers--but it was cool to get a story that touched on previous books, only with a different POV which adds to those scenes. Y'know ... like getting the other half of the story. =)

I think one of my favorite scenes in the book was when Fang and Fury proceeded to beat the living crap out of each other. XD

Definitely liked the introduction of Thorn and the Hellchasers, and it was good to see Cael and Amaranda make an appearance. I had wondered what had happened to those two since Dark Side of the Moon. (I liked Cael's quip about going after demons: "Less calories. More filling.")

The scene where Nicolette and Aubert died together, brought tears to my eyes. That was so sad. =(

It was also kind of surprising to learn how many of the Peltiers were actually Arcadian, even though hints had been dropped in previous books. (Kyle's ability to hold human form in daylight, for example.)

Just a few thoughts, for starters. =)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Can I say how much I loved the angle of Cael and Amaranda coming back in this book. But yes sooo much death in this book. I never sobbed more over the passing of Mama and Papa bear.

You are also right about the Peltiers many secrets too. I figured they had to have something going on given the fact that Coloton the cousin was also Arcadian and given their history I would think Mama would have never allowed Arcadians that close to her family. But hey when it's your in-laws what can you do?

I also have to say I loved the re-telling of the story from Fang's perspective. As we saw how it played out for Vane. But for the other side we were so closed off from when Fang fell into his coma?/stupor?/void? etc. Was really good to go back and see his journey. I also think that his story really grew him up A LOT. Cause when he was first introduced in Vane's book I thought he ran his mouth too much and they needed a leash for him. But in his own book he really grew and I loved that.

Now my forever and long awaited question to always be pondered and asked. What will Fang and Aimee's kids be? Katagari bears? Arcadian wolves? Or the first ever set of Apollite children born to two sets of were-hunters that can change into BOTH animals?!?! *insert awestruck and amazing music here*

I've been wondering about Miranda and Cael for like ever...lol

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments LOL, Dhfan, I felt the same way about Fang at first ... that he was in desperate need of a leash. Or perhaps a muzzle. XD
He certainly came across as a mouthy idiot, in my opinion. (Even in Talon's book, he didn't seem to know when to keep his mouth shut, and if I had been Vane, I probably would've smacked him upside the head too, after that crack about "Hey Ash, you vant to suck my blood?")

I agree, he grew up quite a bit in this book. And I love him so much more for that. =)

As for that long-awaited question about the children ... I am anxious (and hopeful) to see that answered sometime too. According to SK's official site, apparently Fang is scared that any kid born to him and Aimee will look like a Chow Chow. XD (But I like to think that the kids would be able to change into both animals, and that they'd likely be born Arcadian. But that's just my own wishful thinking, lol)

@ Nette: Yes, so have I. Supposedly they've "been offscreen for a very, very good reason" (SK's words)... and boy, do I want to find out that reason. Not to mention that I would love, love, love to see them make another actual appearance. =)

Oh yeah, and how about Stone's appearance in this book? Truthfully, I'm not sure who's the bigger jerk ... Stone, or his dad.

Clara | 1 comments I am a little ashamed to say that I had forgotten how much I love Fang. I always loved Fury (I read his novella before I was even into DH and I read Vane's story...) and I love Vane but I always tend to... overlook Fang.

So this was a little bit of an awakening and as I re-read some of these scenes there was so much more to them than I had thought...

I liked the introduction of Thorn and the Hellchasers, and it kind of gave me some insight on the Hellchasers in general. Intriguing. I want to know more now.

As saddening as Nicolette and Aubert's death was... I have a hard time being overwhelmingly moved because of Nicolette... While I understand why she did everything that she did... I can't completely condone it. To me she acted out of fear and with only the interests of her family. I understand that though, so I can't condemn her for it either.

Overall a good book. I'm waiting for the other books to come out for me to read.

LOL Chow Chow, now wouldn't that be a hoot. Or maybe one of those dogs like that Vander pump lady carries around. He is nice and puffy and a mini bear on his own but don't do too much, haha.

And Stone and his daddy are definitely a hot mess together.

I think it is do to how I was raised that I felt so much for Mama and Papa's loss. Because as you said she acted out of fear a lot of the time. But more than anything I think she was more of a mom than some of the other female were-hunters we have seen in her age range. And she was a die hard do anything for her family type of character. So I had mad respect for her. Most especially running a sanctuary and inviting so many different weres and such into her home that yes she couldn't always trust. But at least it showed a positive side to her that would even want to do that in the first place after losing two of her children. Add to that, she was a queen that knew how to run her castle and her business. Can't really ask for more or less in that from Mama. And definitely could see why Papa and the cubs were so die hard for her too.

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Excellent points there about Mama Lo, Clara and Dhfan. She certainly was a complex character. =)

As a mother myself, I can understand Nicolette's motivations. Yeah, she made some rash decisions which I didn't personally agree with--but overall, she was acting in what she believed to be the best interests of her family, as Dhfan says. I certainly respect that. And in all honesty, I can't say that I've been the perfect parent either, but I always tried to act in the best interests of my family. =)

And I will admit, what really broke my heart was the death of Aubert. I mean, he just simply laid down and died quietly along with his wife, and that was that. (I couldn't help but be reminded of the book, Where the Red Fern Grows--which was the first book I remember crying over. The scene where the surviving dog laid down on the other dog's grave and died three days later ... *sniffle*)

Basically, that scene really drove home what happens when weres are bonded, even more so than Anya's death. And for me, it really added to the magnitude of the sacrifice that Vane and Bride were willing to make for Fang.

Puffy mini bear dogs for the win! XD I would definitely laugh my ass off, if Fang and Aimee ended up with a kid that looked like a puffy dog. XD

Ya know that is the thing though. I felt just as bad for when Anya died too. Because here was this beloved character that was equally cared about and cherished by Vane and Fang in a different family dynamic. And sounded like they all had really great memories and good times together. And I don't know, maybe it was just me, but there was something about losing someone like Anya for them, cause she fell in love with a guy that couldn't really fight so well. And unfortunately lost her life in the process. I guess in a way Anya's situation was akin to if one of our relatives kept going back to/sticking with someone that is super reckless and there isn't anything we can really do about it, til it's too late in a way.

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Thorn was introduced. I didn't care about anyone as much when Thorn hit the scene. lol

I liked that this story revisited previous novels and how Fang fit into them. It was nice going down memory lane cause I miss the older characters and their lives.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I'm voting for whole Apollites that can change into either a bear or a wolf. Which would be pretty bad ass really. You don't know what you would unleash in those babies haha.

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments According to Mendel and his Mendalian inheritance(monk who crossed red pea plants with white pea plants) their children would be all hybrids or able to shift into both. Their children (the grandkids) would be: one a bear shifter (red), one a wolf shifter (white) and two who can either shift into both or into some hybrid (pink).

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Me too, but I've forgotten so much about all that stuff. But I do remember it was really fascinating to learn it in the first place. Truly amazing how genes work out at times.
