Jessica | 400 comments I actually tried to read the book once but I didn't really get into it...I'm thinking about giving another try though.

Well now's the time to do it! ;)

Kate (katerg) Yay, finally an excuse to dig this book back up from the bottom of my kindle library. >D I bought it when the film was announced, but never read it and ended up seeing the movie instead. I'm going to try to read it now.

Katy H (the_other_katy) | 223 comments I was going to borrow this from the library, but I finally gave up & got it for $1.99 just now from Amazon so I could read it this month! I want to see the movie too. =)

P.S. It's $1.99 @ Amazon.com right now! >.<

Ellie | 24 comments I read this book about 2 months ago because my boyfriend had asked me to. I'm not going to spoil anything. I thought the book was okay, it definitely isn't my favorite young adult novel, but it also isn't my least favorite. I agree with those of you who said that it was hard to get into at first. I had a hard time at first as well and had to reread the first two chapters at least three times before I could really get into it.

message 8: by Charity (new)

Charity I wonder if it's better than the movie?

Haven't read it yet, and therefore haven't seen the movie yet, so I couldn't tell you Char! :D I refuse to read books after the movies, so those that I want to read, I will avoid the movie at all cost!

Charity I'm the oppisite, if I see the movie it makes me curious about the book.

To me it just ruins the book for me...

Ally Oh, I always have to read the book first. I don't like the movie to spoil things for me.

I read this one a while ago. It's not one of my favorites, but I did enjoy it. The premise is pretty neat and I liked being kept in suspense. It was a bit slow to start, but it picked up towards the middle, I think.

I didn't like the "romance" between Thomas and Teresa, to be honest. I just don't think it served much of a purpose. And I didn't find Teresa to be too likeable, so...

Overall, it was pretty fun. The epilogue was my favorite part. It really sparked my interest for the second book.

Here's my full review: http://thescribblingsprite.blogspot.c...

Jade SiL Carstairs (jadesil) | 253 comments I read the book a year ago, but it was only because of the social pressure. Everyone talked about it, so I had to give it a shot.

To be honest, I have contradicting thoughts about this book. There were things I enjoyed and things I didn't .
I didn't buy the romance between Thomas and Teresa, not because of Thomas but because of HER. Something tells me I can't trust her.

I did dig the short chapters that ended with a cliffhanger, though. That's the only way I could finish the book: because of the suspense.
I do have to give Dashner some points for originality; the world he created was extraordinary and they even had their own lingo (that was very funny by the way).

About the movie, I believe that if the book wasn't a "five stars" for me, then how is the movie going to do that?
So, I haven't seen it.

Ally The movie kind of fell flat for me. It was different from the book, but not in ways that really enhanced the plot. Frankly, I was pretty bored with it. But maybe it's because I watched the movie so soon after reading the book.

I'm with Jade on the suspense. That, and the world were what kept me reading.

Mikki | 2 comments I haven't seen the movie, I'm sure I will eventually. I had pretty high hopes for the book because there seemed to be a lot of hype surrounding it, but it really left me cold. Dashner's unique world was really interesting, but other than that, I was disappointed. :(

I thought the characters were dull and frustrating and the lack of information throughout the story really bothered me. I can see where Dashner wanted to create suspense, but it came across as obnoxious and obvious to me.

That's what I don't like about reading hyped up books. They usually leave me out in the cold, I haven't seen it or read it yet because I'm wishy-washy on it.

Katy H (the_other_katy) | 223 comments I'm with you, Savannah. I have to read the book first or not at all. I have Life of Pi, but have never read it because my parents wanted me to watch the movie with them. That's the same reason I've never read The Help or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and it could easily wind up happening with Gone Girl. As of right now, I'm only up to 10% on this, but I'm liking it!
