Tom | 141 comments I am reading The Cleaner by Paul Cleave and it is awesome. Gruesome, funny, clever (to me; I tend to not try and pre guess what is going to happen, I like to ride along with the novel). Check Cleave out.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9976 comments I finished Cane and Abe by James Grippando. Prosecutor Abe Beckham hopes he'll get the chance to put away a serial killer who's dropping bodies in the Florida Everglades. But when it turns out Abe knows the most recent victim, the attorney himself becomes a suspect. Parts of the story seem influenced by a certain popular book but it's a pretty good mystery. 3 stars.

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 140 comments I'm reading Horns, a good mystery by Joe Hill. Till now I like it, an easy reading. There is a good mix of mystery and supernatural with a great definition of the characters. With the chapters, the book proceed with a description of Ig's life, that will take to the opening fact, the horns.

Olivia "So many books--so little time."" | 831 comments Currently I'm reading Heat Lightning by John Sandford, who is one of my favorite authors. It's the second in his Virgil Flowers series. I just finished Bad Chemistry by Gary Krist. It's about a woman whose husband goes missing. I really liked it--I gave it four stars.

Chelsea Humphrey (suspensethrill) Mary, that's so exciting! I'm glad to not be the only one just hearing about these.

Mary Beth Chelsea I feel the same way. I found out about this series because I needed an N for my A to Z challenge and it was the only N on my to read shelf. I'm just so shocked how good it is and to find it by only needing to finish my A to Z challenge lol!

Reading The Lake District Murder. I'm trying very hard to finish off this year and to start the new year with books I've had on the shelf for a while. I've been so caught up in other genres lately that I need to get back to mysteries and crime.

I read that book and I wasn't overly thrilled with it. I did enjoy reading about the corruption going on vis-a-vis politics and Big Sugar. Even after our waterways and the ocean here had been polluted by Big Sugar, nothing official was done about it. It's putting way too much money into politicians' pockets here.

I agree, Nancy, that the sugar cane politics is interesting and kind of sad; whenever there are big bucks to be made there seems to be really bad behavior.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9976 comments I finished The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz. Mikael Blomqvist is pursuing a story about an intricate conspiracy while Lisbeth Salander is hacking computers, trying to protect an autistic boy, and dealing with a sister from hell. Not as good as the original books in the trilogy but worth reading.

Mary Beth I finished Now You See Me and was my favorite book of 2015. It was my first book by S.J. Bolton and can't wait to read the second book of the Lacey Flint Series.

I am now reading The Bone House by Brian Freeman and Zero Day by David Baldacci.

Thomas (tom471) | 2004 comments Another review The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon

My wife and I both enjoy this series very much. This book has Precious Ramotswe and her associate Detective, Grace Makutsi, solving mysteries in a gentle manner, with kindness and humanity. Grace reveals that she is pregnant, has her baby and comes back to work. The mysteries solved are who is spreading malicious rumors about The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon and a question of identity in an inheritance.
This is not a book/series for people who want to read about murders and gun play, but more about people and Botswana. A solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 4769 comments Currently listening to Blindsighted Blindsighted (Grant County, #1) by Karin Slaughter and reading All Fall Down All Fall Down (Lucy Kendall, #4) by Stacy Green and Finders Keepers Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #2) by Stephen King .

Tom Mathews | 994 comments I just finished Between Shades of Gray. Told through the eyes of a teenage girl, it is a heart-wrenching tale of Stalin's 1939 annexation of the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) and what happened to hundreds of thousands of the citizens of those countries. The horror of these events rivals that of the Holocaust and yet it is almost unknown to much of the world. Kudos to Ruta Sepetys for researching and writing this excellent book that tells us of events that desperately need to be told.

My review is here.

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9976 comments I finished The Crossing by Michael Connelly. Harry Bosch, former homicide detective, balks when defense attorney Mickey Haller asks him to investigate the case of his client - an alleged murderer. Nevertheless, Harry lends a hand. Good suspense thriller. 4 stars.

Yesterday I finished Dark Corners, Ruth Rendell's last book; now reading Darkness at Pemberley by T.H. White. This Pemberley has a Darcy, but a century later, and here the latest Darcy descendent had gone to prison for two years for smuggling cocaine by the time we meet him. Interesting book so far.

Don't say so. :) You can think at this series like a new world to explore and more time passed to read. I liked this series and I found myself a little sad when finished.

Lee Mossel | 106 comments Just finished Vince Flynn's 2008 thriller EXTREME MEASURES. Virtually the entire book could have been lifted from the last six week's headlines. It is creepy clairvoyant! As usual, Mitch Rapp is his normal violent self and at odds with the congressional committees and his bosses. I've read the series in chronological order and believe that's important. Extreme Measures

I've read Operation Chaos a couple of times, loved it. In fact I bought it for my daughter's boyfriend for Xmas. Operation Luna was ok too. I have to find a copy of Chaos again. Mine was kind of weather-beaten.

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 27 comments Think I have read all of Vince Flynn's and it sure would be nice to reread them all in order--thanks for the reminder!
I was so saddened by his death at such a young age!
I believe Kyle Mills has taken on the Rapp storyline..any reports on that? (My opinion of Kyle's early writing was that it was uneven--some great books & some clunkers.)

My daughter and I read these together when she was younger. There were so many times when I thought "jeez, these really aren't directed at kids at all."

message 1649: by Zoe (new)

Zoe Radley | 558 comments But then again so are all the classic stories for kids I don't think there should be any restriction on reading material for kids that is obviously suitable for them classics such as watership down and the secret garden are if you really really delve into them are quite grown up and serious and have an adult message but as long as you give them a great story with fantastic characters and is written well they will fall in love with reading as soon as you start restricting what they read I find that children will lose their imagination and love of reading

I had no problem with the HP books at all. I also happen to agree with you, Zoe.
