I was totally surprised that Kitty accepted Julien's proposal. I never expected her to give up her freedom, but I guess the latest brush with death changed her mind...

Very appropriate :-). The name Arthur does function a bit like a tropical storm in the book.

I'm not sure she sees it as giving up freedom (or at least as giving up any freedom she wants to keep). I think, as she says, she trusts him as she trusts few men.
