New Purchases - 2015
I went on a rampage this morning when the first six of the Charley Davidson series were on for 1.99 each on Amazon Kindle Deal and on iBooks. I already read First Grave on the Right so I picked up:Second Grave on the Left
Third Grave Dead Ahead
Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet
Fifth Grave Past the Light
Sixth Grave on the Edge
Guess I needed more victims for the serial killer challenge (not).
lol, yeah, probably it happened in January. Now that I read my post, I identify one of these hybrids that arise when I think in Spanish and write in English. :)

I do it all the time, Sandra!!!
I bought Donald Kagan's Peloponnesian War series. It was actually a lot more expensive to buy used books than the ebook, which contains all four books of the series. The first book is The Outbreak of the Peloponnesian War. I got it because I'm reading The Landmark Thucydides: A Comprehensive Guide to the Peloponnesian War
I just bought two Sherlock Holmes books for the May challenge. On the app right now, but I will post the titles when I get on-line tomorrow.I bought The Crimes of Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes: The Unauthorized Biography

It's one of my all time favourite books too Kimberly. I hope you enjoy it just as much :)
Since so many people love it, I dug out The Song of Achilles and started it. I love the The Iliad; I've read it 50+ times, sometimes turning the final page, flipping the book over, and starting again. So the story is one I know well and I was kind of skeptical of The Song of Achilles. But the author is amazing, the voice of the characters is pitch perfect. On the GR's Recommends for Song of Achilles is Ransom by David Malouf, which is also set within the Iliad. I dug that out of the box last night, too.
Alrighty then! I was going to read it later next month but I'm going to read it after my next read so this week/early next week.

I agree, Madeline Miller did a great job with the voices of the characters and the setting. I really felt as though I was there in Ancient Greece with them. And now I really want to read it again....

I bought Above The Safe Zone for Kindle. It was written by my co-worker's cousin and sounded like something I'd like.

I bought The Trojan War: A New History by Barry S. Strauss after finishing The Song of Achilles. Miller used the word phalanx, which was kind of weird because it refers to the fighting style that includes overlapping shields that originated around 700 BC. Centuries after the Trojan War. However, I'm willing to believe, given the author's credentials, that the word phalanx may have had prior usuage or just chalk it up to literary license- that she wanted to conjure a specific image without going on and on for a paragraph. (Plus the combat in Miller's book was, in general, consistent with what is known of that time period- spears were for throwing, single combat, etc.) But, I bought The Trojan War: A New History because I'm curious about what is actually known about warfare during that period. I also bought The Peloponnesian War by Donald Kagan, even though I already have his four volume series on the war.
I purchased
. It was on clearance at the bookstore here and it sounded cute :) this is the first book I have purchased in quite awhile as I mostly go the library these days :)
Yesterday, I bought
John Wayne: The Life and Legend, just released in paperback, at Barnes & Nobel. It is a doorstop even in paperback but I had to have it!

Lisa, just so you know, Suite Francaise is an unfinished novel. (I wasn't aware when I read it, so was frantically flipping back and forth through pages at the end. And rereading the last few pages to make sure I didn't misread/overlook something.) It ends kind of abruptly, but not horribly considering.
Thanks for the info Bella :) I was aware that it was unfinished but only because I saw the film a couple of days ago (which is very good by the way) and right at the end before the credits it talked about the novel and how it was unfinished due to the tragic death of the author.
We went to some yard sales today and picked up a few books (and a cubby shelf that I turned into a bookcase, YAY!!) Books:
,
and

I added Lexicon to my TBR list. Can't believe I've never heard of this book, especially considering it's won awards.
