I couldn't help myself! I shopped the Kindle sale of the day and got:Once Burned
Twice Tempted
Bound by Flames
Yet another series to read!
I picked up Euphoria
. After seeing how much those of you buddy reading it have enjoyed it, how could I not?

I have enjoyed them... It has a strong female character.
Currently I'm reading the third
I bought Much Depends on Dinner: The Extraordinary History and Mythology, Allure and Obsessions, Perils and Taboos of an Ordinary Meal
I oicked up Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex. And. Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. Both on sale
I just bought Pattern Recognition which is the first book in the Blue Ant series. Another one to add to the list.
Travis of NNY wrote: "I oicked up Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex. And. Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. Both on sale"I've been wanting to read these two for ages!
I just bought The Last Town which is book 3 in the Wayward Pines series. I started the series during the series challenge so I might as well finish it too then I don't feel so bad about all the others I've started with the challenge.
I picked up today's Daily Deal at Audible, The Magician's Lie. I also snagged a couple of cheap ebooks the other day - The Taker and Rebel Queen.
I was slightly intrigued by The Magicians Lie yet at the same time it struck me as a bit girly and wasn't sure it quite fit my bill.
I bought the first four Louise Penny books in the Inspector G series and two Nero Wolfe paperbacks too last Friday's. On my iPod, so I can't post the links but I will update later.I went to Barnes & Noble with a list of six books that I wanted and they didn't have any of them in the store. Makes me crazy.
so here is what I bought:
Still Life
A Fatal Grace
The Cruelest Month
A Rule Against Murder
Three Doors to Death
Three at Wolfe's Door

At B&N's website, if you click on a book, on the right side, there's an orange "Add to Bag" button. Underneath, there's a green thing and underneath it it says, "Available for pick up in store." You enter your zip code and it'll be ready in 60 minutes. Also, I've used that in the past for books they don't have in stock at the store by my house and they send it to your store and text you when it's available for pick up. I use this when I'm pressed for time and need a specific book, but can't browse the store that day.
Oh, I think to have it sent to your store took 24-48 hours if they had it in the city and longer if they didn't. Also, on books where that service was available, if they had to ship it in, they didn't charge you postage. Not sure what their policy is now, though.
I'm pretty sure The Magician's Lie isn't for you Travis. I'll let you know for sure though once I've read it. It might not be for me either.
Travis of NNY wrote: "I picked up audibles deal. Never heard of it but it looked interesting. Three"I got it as well. When I saw that it was narrated by Luke Daniels, the deal was cinched.
I bought Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal- I kept seeing the ad on GR and I like books about food. Also bought Buried in the Bitter Waters: The Hidden History of Racial Cleansing in America by Elliot Jaspin- got it very cheap at Abe Books. About half the price, including shipping, than even BetterWorld.
But I also bought a few books from BetterWorld Books:
The Slaves' War: The Civil War in the Words of Former Slaves by Andrew Ward, since I'm reading the letters of Col. Robert Gould Shaw, I thought it'd be interesting to get a different perspective.
F5: The Devastating Tornado Outbreak of 1974 by Mark Levine
The Future Eaters: An Ecological History of the Australasian Lands and People by Tim Flannery
The First Clash: The Miraculous Greek Victory at Marathon and Its Impact on Western Civilization by Jim Lacey
On the Laps of Gods: The Red Summer of 1919 and the Struggle for Justice That Remade a Nation by Robert Whitaker
Searching for Whitopia: An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America by Rich Benjamin
Luke Daniels also does the entertaining series Off to Be the Wizard whih pops up in sales periodically
Thank you for your input, Bella. Yes, I have and know how to use the B&N web site, and do at times, but I was going to the store anyway. Just that none of the books that I really wanted to buy were not available "while I was there". They asked me if I wanted to order them and have them shipped and I said "no thanks". I can wait, I have plenty to read. I can always find something to spend my money on while I am there. :0)
Travis of NNY wrote: "Luke Daniels also does the entertaining series Off to Be the Wizard whih pops up in sales periodically"Amy bought all three of the Magic 2.0 Series and she and the boys have listened to them. She said that they were very good.
Off to Be the Wizard
Spell or High Water
An Unwelcome Quest
I suggested them because of Luke Daniels, but I could not get her to want to listen to The Iron Druid.
I finally picked up a copy of Phantom
. I am a huge 'Phantom of the Opera' fan and have been wanting to read this for ages.
I own but not read the next 2 in series. With tv turning to more and more trash I really thino as audiobooks continue to gain popularity that there could still be hope for the future and a generation of readers if parents continue to let kids enjoy audiobooks and ibtroduce them to them. Not that there is anything wrong with print books but audio is so much more versatile.
I got Kindle Daily Deal, Bone Gap today. My membership to audible renewed middle of July and 24 credits were popped into my account. I want to get 2 books today (I'm rationing them out at 2/month), but it's the decision of which books I must get that should keep me occupied for awhile.
I only meant to get on Nook Shop on my tablet to buy Pompeii for the group read, but the Roman theme had more in mind. I also bought Empire of Dragons and Hero of Rome. I also picked up two Patrick O'Brian books, Testimonies - his first book and The Road to Samarcand: An Adventure
for the cover and it sounds so good. I rounded out my selections with two Edna Ferber shorts to go with the book that I read for Rusalka's food challenge. Emma McChesney and Co. and Personality Plus
Audible has a small sale which 2 books from my wishlist were in so I got Project 731and 200,000 Miles Aboard the Destroyer Cotten
Cherie wrote: "I also bought Empire of Dragons and [book:Hero of Rome..."Empire of Dragons is a great book, Cherie!
I bought In the Presence of Mine Enemies: The Civil War in the Heart of America, 1859-1864 by Edward L. Ayers. It won the Bancroft Prize. My husband says I have to limit the amount of physical books I can take on vacation because of lack of space in the car. So, I'm going to buy a few ebooks before we go.
Currently reading Joe Hills Locke and key graphic novel series. So good. Looking at audible I see there is a multi cast audio version of the entire series coming in October. And it is Free! So I got it. Will finish the gn versions before I listen though
Sounds great Travis. I haven't generally got in to graphic novels but I might have to give it a try.
I bought all four books in 'The Rain Wild Chronicles' by Robin Hobb:The Dragon Keeper
Dragon Haven
City of Dragons
Blood of Dragons
I'm reading Pompeii and felt like reading a non-fiction book about the city. So I bought Pompeii: The Living City by Alex Butterworth. I've already read the Mary Beard book, which was great. Does anyone else do this? A lot of times when I read historical fiction, I like to read a non-fiction book that relates. The Butterworth book is $7.99 (ebook) at Amazon & B&N, I had to buy it in case that was a sale price.
I don't usually read a whole non-fiction book, but I often google the event or person just to learn more about the situation from a factual point of view.
I actually wasn't a big non-fiction reader for quite a while, but reading a fiction and non-fiction in tandem made me love it. I think I went from just a handful a year to reading 50-80 non-fiction books a year. I must admit that sometimes reading the novel is what makes me finish the non-fiction book.
Speaking of non-fiction, I just picked up Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void. It was one of the kindle daily deals. I can handle humourous non-fiction like this.
