Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I need a new book shelf now too!
I just made room for all of the books that I had and donated two bags full to my library and while I was there today, bought some more.

The Murder Room
The Private Patient
A River Runs Through It and Other Stories
The Second Mrs. Darcy
The Scar
In the Woods
Bad Moon Rising - for my granddaughter
Acheron - for my granddaughter
No Mercy - for my granddaughter
How to Wash a Cat - for my granddaughter

message 504: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Such cool ideas, Sandra! I can't wait to have a house to fill books in :) I'm telling my hubby that one room needs to be a library with a comfy couch or nook :-)

message 505: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That would be a great room, Stephanie! I'd love to have a room just for books and reading.

message 506: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I think if hubby gets a "man cave" then the woman should get a room to call her own too :)

message 507: by Tasha (new)

Tasha yes, yes we should! ;) I have taken over the spare bedroom in the house bc it's the least cluttered and the only one where there isn't usually noise from a tv or computer. I read, meditate and do yoga in that room. I love it. I have a bookshelf with mostly my books on it but it's not a dedicated reading/library room. I tend to give books away after I read them anyway so I have books around (unread ones) but not enough to fill an entire room or wall. Although all the kids books we have here could fill some space!

message 508: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yeah me neither..I will someday though :) I used to have a ton of books. I gave them away to goodwill or the libraries when I got married because I didn't want to move them all, lol!

Bella | 502 comments I ordered Voyagers to the West: A Passage in the Peopling of America on the Eve of the Revolution by Bernard Bailyn and William Cooper's Town: Power and Persuasion on the Frontier of the Early American Republic by Alan Taylor from BetterWorld Books. Both are Pulitzer Prize winners.

I just got the ebook Bearing the Cross: Martin Luther King, JR., and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference by David J. Garrow. It's also a Pulitzer winner. If anyone is interested in this book, buy it soon, I got it for $2.99. (It's that price at B&N and Amazon.) The list price is $14.99, so right now it's 80% off. Cheaper than a used copy.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Audible has a 3 for 2 sale so I picked up 3 credits to browse. Didn't see a whole lot but I put 2 in the cart Maelstromthe 3rd in series and The Soil Will Save Us: How Scientists, Farmers, and Foodies Are Healing the Soil to Save the Planet which I'm sure wouldn't have caught my eye except being in the middle of olanting season I spend a lot of time in my soil. Not sure if I'll get a 3rd or not. There was one more I thought about but not sure I'm that interested

message 511: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I looked over some reviews and did get one more. Been wanting to try BV Larson for a while so gonna start with Technomancer one comoared the world with Peter Clines 14. That was the review that sold me

message 512: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Bella, I went shopping on betterworld books today too! I had some birthday money left over and thought it would be fun to splurge over there. :)

I got these today:

Burning Bright by Tracy Chevalier Men at Arms (Discworld, #15; City Watch #2) by Terry Pratchett Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd The Law of Similars by Chris Bohjalian Plainsong (Plainsong, #1) by Kent Haruf Crippen by John Boyne The Absolutist by John Boyne

message 513: by Bella (new)

Bella | 502 comments Tasha? Were your books on sale? Mine weren't, I think mine are OOP. Have you ever used BetterWorld Books service of converting the books to ebooks? I'm tempted because I'm running out of room in the house for books- we're now stacking crates of them in an unused hallway. But my understanding is that between the scanning and the law, the books have to be destroyed and that somehow seems evil to me.

message 514: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I did buy them from the bargain bin so I did get some at $3 instead of the $3+. What is OOP? I haven't used their ebook service and have to agree, it's weird to destroy a book!

message 515: by Rishabh (new)

Rishabh Lakhmani (rishabhls) I Purchased Pop goes the Weasel - Alex Cross Series , The Eternal Enemy and I Michael Bennett

OOP= out of print.

message 517: by Tasha (new)

Tasha haha, got it. :)

message 518: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (meerkatghoul) ive recently got seriously... i'm kidding by ellen degeneres, my booky wook by russell brand, if you ask me (and you probably wont by betty white, thirteen reasons why by jay asher, and extremely loud incredibly close as a gift for my sister :)

message 519: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments Maddie, if you are on the app and unable to link, could you use capitals and punctuation so that it's easier to determine the title of the book? If you are on the full website, please link the titles using the "add book/author" link. Thanks.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Sandra wrote: "What to do with all those books:

Some great ideas, Sandra, but I do not want to use my books for construction projects, just find a shelf for them until I get a chance to read them, without them taking over my house. I have stacks in most rooms, but have really been trying to consolidate, or donate. I won't even mention the 15 boxes of books and papers in my daughter's storage space or the boxes of books in the closet in my back room, or the three plastic bins under my bed. You didn't read that, did you?

message 521: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments Your secret is safe with us, Cherie. Mainly, it's because I suspect most of us have boxes of books.

message 522: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just got Monster Hunter International for free on kindle and Half a King which was on offer.

message 523: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments Thanks, Sarah! I snagged it up thanks to your comment.

message 524: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I know from audie group that whisoersync on mhi is 2.99 Janice

message 525: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19339 comments Audible is $1.99, if you "buy" the free kindle edition from amazon.

message 526: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19222 comments The cynic in me wonders if you got Monster Hunter for free as he's trying to make people like him again after being such a massive jerk with the Hugos....

message 527: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments The Whispersync deal for the audiobook on Monster Hunter Intl was $1.99, so I picked it up too.

message 528: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I knew it was something on the cheap side

message 529: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I admit, Rusalka, I don't follow awards or authors in general. Sci fi guys are always off offending someone. I did find it strange to offer mhi for free considering it is quite a successful series. I mean I've listened through the series twice. I probably need to run throufh the grimnoir series a second time as well. I think I missed some things the first time through especially in Hard Magic. I was having a ard time gripping all these peoples powers. I lije to enjoy the books and oretend they're just magically written myself rathet than pay attention to the real people in real life

message 530: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments Wow! When I posted my comment that I picked up the whispersync deal, there was only Sarah's and my comments. I come back now, and there were a few more. They must have been wandering around cyberspace for a while.

message 531: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19339 comments Rusalka - I didn't know anything about the Hugos. I figured it was fee so you'd get hooked on the series and buy the rest.

message 532: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Didn't know about the hugos. I was surprised to see it free but not complaining. I like your way of thinking Travis that you magically write the books you read. must do wonders for your self esteem (when it's a good book). I might have to try it :-)

message 533: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just picked up The Purge of Babylon: A Novel of Survival for free on kindle.

message 534: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I think I was trying to say something like I picture authors as mythical beings which magically write books. I don't imagine myself writing them all. Althoigh I do imagine myself laboring over an old school typewriter writing some of them sometimes. Sometimes when I'm on my phone posting, my lack of punctuation confuses even me later when I read what I've posted.

Camilla | 2117 comments Sarah wrote: "I just picked up The Purge of Babylon: A Novel of Survival for free on kindle."

Thanks for the tip Sarah, I also went and picked it up. I don't even have a Kindle yet, but I've started collecting an e-library (mostly freebies) for the future when I have one.

message 536: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Wow. Now that's what I call forward thinking Camilla.

Camilla | 2117 comments Sarah wrote: "Wow. Now that's what I call forward thinking Camilla."

LOL! I aim to get a Kindle before the end of this year, it will be a present to myself after I finish a big project that I've been working on for ages. So hopefully not too long a wait.

message 538: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ah ok. I do remember you saying that before now.

message 539: by Kimberly (new)

message 540: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19222 comments Oh, I'm not a big follower of awards either. I just pay attention when people act like spoilt jerks. But I'll give him a go at some stage, when i'm less grumpy at him. We've already paid him money, may as well read his stuff.

message 541: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Picked up Spell or High Water and An Unwelcome Quest. Audible is pushing video game books with pac mans 35 anniversary and these 2 were less than $8

message 542: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I just purchased Spectre, Dark Victory and Preserver. These three books are in The Mirror Univers Trilogy which is the middle one of the Shatnerverse trilogies written by William Shatner with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. Now to go download them onto my Nook and start the first one.

message 543: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I bought City of Stairs at the weekend after a GR friend said it was the best fantasy book they'd ever read. Not read anything by this author before.

It's been on my wishlist for awhile. It does look good.

message 545: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments I'm not sure I'd say it was the best fantasy book I'd ever read but it is really good. I really liked the heroine and the world building.
I'm looking forward to the next one.

message 546: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments It's quite the claim for sure. I guess I'll find out.
