* If your book is YA/Adult, without illustrations, and has a page count of over 450 pages, you may also claim up to an additional 5 Blank Spaces (up to 10 Blank Spaces total).

Hi Emily, could I possibly put you into solo for a couple of days? I need to have a look at the teams to work out where to put you and I'm a bit behind because of having to finish off May's challenge, and homeschooling my son. If that would be okay I can message you once I know where you're going ☺
(And you could post anything you read in the solo thread and it will then be transferred over when I can move you to a team) x

Hi Akshita, could I possibly pop you in solo for a short while? I haven't really looked at the teams because I've been sorting out the end of May's challenge, so I need to have a look to see who has and hasn't checkedin before working where to put people. It should be for less than two days. Would that be okay?

Ahh, thank you! I didn't see that part.

Of course!

I just need to explain this part of the rules I think -
* You may claim up to 5 Blank Spaces per qualifying book (see *** below).
* If your book is YA/Adult, without illustrations, and has a page count of over 450 pages, you may also claim up to an additional 5 Blank Spaces (up to 10 Blank Spaces total).
This means that if your book is YA/Adult, without illustrations, and has a page count of over 450 pages AND has more than 5 blank spaces in the title, you can claim them. It doesn't mean you automatically get 5 extra blank spaces.
I obviously didn't explain well enough, but if your book has 8 blank spaces in the title/author name, and is under 450 pages, you can claim 5 of those blank spaces, if it's is YA/Adult, without illustrations, and has a page count of over 450 pages, then you can claim all 8 ☺
Hope that helps ☺

Fried 1 chicken 2 & 3 fangs 4 by 5 mummy
Would that be it or is it
Fried 1 chicken & fangs 2 by 3 mummy
Also i'm confufused with punctuation.
C.M. 1 Stunich
or
C 1 . 2 M 3 . 4 Stunich

This is actually 3 separate books all together. I haven't actually researched whether or not to claim them separate or together at this time but I'm just curious if the title spaces after the (:) would count not just the space after the (:)... if this question even makes sense lol.

Fried 1 chicken 2 & 3 fangs 4 by 5 mummy"
Well, '&' counts as 'and' so it'd be 5 spaces in the first. And I don't think it's be a space before and after a comma or period. Only after. So I think it'd be:
C. 1 M. 2 Stunich

Fried 1 chic..."
Thank you

You'd be able to claim the spaces either side of the & the same as if it was a word ☺️
For the author name, it depends if there is a gap or not on Goodreads, ie, is it C.M. Without a space, or C. M. with a space? I've been doing control+f on my laptop and then pressing the space bar once for it to highlight the spaces ☺️

- Bonus points for Blank Spaces are awarded to team totals only, so solo players will not be able to claim these points.

If there isn't a space between the letters, then there wouldn't be a blank space to claim, you can only claim the spaces that you can see on Goodreads. So you for this one you could claim
- by J. Anderson Coats
- by 1 J. 2 Anderson 3 Coats
because there are space between them,
But for this one -
by J.K. Rowling
by 1 J.K. 2 Rowling
because there are no gaps between the J. and the K. you wouldn't be able to claim a space there.
Does that make sense?

Carolyn wrote: "Quick Question: for those participating in the solo challenge, do we still count our blank spaces for bonus points? I think I got myself confused."
You don't need to count spaces if you are solo, I only started a tally on the solo review thread because there are some people who I've popped on there until I can move them into a team, and if they post reviews it's easier for me to keep track of the blank spaces claimed there so that I can move them over to their team review thread when they move ☺

Hi Laurene, I think we usually give points based on this edition of The Little Prince -
which has 382 pages. (I'll note this down on the rules thread because there are a lot of editions to go through!)
Anyway, that would get you 2 page points, and then if you read something else to go with it, you could also earn bonus points and blank spaces. So you'd need another illustrated book/play/or poetry with 218 pages, or 109 pages of a middle-grade/children's book, or 73 pages of an unillustrated YA/Adult book and then you could earn blank spaces too ☺

That the first time that I'm doing this challenge I'm quite a bit lost, sorry !
The Little Prince The Last Battle
Sorry to confuse you, we tend to use the longest page count available (although there are some exceptions - I'll pop them below) as that's what will earn the most points. We wouldn't be able to give any points for a 93 page edition of the little prince because our lowest points value for illustrated books is 1 point per 150 pages.
You wouldn't need to add anything to The Last Battle though as that is an unillustrated YA book, and over 200 pages, so would count on it's own ☺
So, you could post the Last Battle on it's own for points and blank spaces, and then if you post the little prince using the higher page count edition then you'd get 2 page points for that. You could always add something later if you read something else that could be added to it ☺
7. In challenges where points are given for pages read, higher page count editions may be used, but page counts for iphone/ibook/ipod/itunes editions will not be accepted, and neither will page counts for audiobook editions of any kind, or miniature versions of books such as Flipback, dwarsligger, PenguinMini (you are still welcome to read in these formats, but must use a different page count). We also request that you leave us a link to the edition with the page count that you are using, if the book has multiple editions with different page counts.
We will also not accept a page count which is more than double the next highest for that book. (ie: if there are 4 editions at 200 pages, and 1 edition at 2200 pages, we would not accept the 2200 page edition as it is more than double the next highest at 200 pages.)

Okay. Thanks. :)
So somebody asked me about this, and I wanted to try and explain this a little easier, so... this is what I meant by doing ctrl+f and then hitting the space bar on a computer to look for spaces -

So you can see, each time there is a purple line, that's a blank space, so there are 3 blank spaces (one after each word in the title), and then another 2 either side of the author's first name.
If it's a book that's part of a series, then you ignore the series name -

so there are 2 blank spaces (one after each word in the title), and then another 2 either side of the author's first name.
Hope that helps ☺
