Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments I like hearing about people's little reading nooks or special places that people go to read.

I'd love to turn our spare bedroom into a little reading room but at the moment it's just a general dumping ground, hehe. So until we get it tidied up I stick to in bed first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Otherwise I'll sit in my chair in the living room to read.

Generally I've always got a book in my bag so I can sit down and read any old place.

One of the best places to read in the summer is beside a pond on the stately home estate where I live. Hardly anyone knows it's up there, you walk up a muddy little track, duck under a fallen tree, and go on up to this massive pond (it's like a small lake!) where there are a couple of little benches.

It's so peaceful and quiet with just the occasion heron or dragonfly to keep you company. Plus it's surrounded by this fir wood so it's ideal for reading Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings. ;-)

How about you? Any favourite places?

Taylor (amateursuperhero) | 66 comments Most of my reading gets done in bed, but my absolute favorite place to read has to be hanging in my hammock at the national wildlife refuge near my campus. I read a good bit of The Hobbit there and it truly enhanced the experience for me. I can't wait to go back!

message 3: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jollybookshelf) In bed! It's so relaxing

message 4: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments Taylor, reading in a hammock at a wildlife refuge sounds like a brilliant place to read. There's something really nice about reading outdoors.

Jessica, I probably read most in my bed too. I can't get to sleep unless I've 'switched my brain off' by reading for twenty minutes or so. :-)

message 5: by Nekia (new)

Nekia Borden | 6 comments I try not to read in bed too much because my bed is way to comfortable and I usually end up asleep, even if I'm not tired! But most of the time that's where I am.

I read wherever: in/on our bed, on the living room floor while lounging on a bean bag, while on the bus, in the breakroom at work...wherever I can.

message 7: by Toni A. (new)

Toni A. (teeatfore) My favorite place to read is in a library. Unfortunately, I rarely have time to do so so I settle for my second favorite place, while sitting on my sofa.

Nekia, I have that problem too! Way too comfy!

Since our move, I've been snuggling up with the pups in the big blue armchair. My plan is to build a reading nook in our master bedroom which, for whatever reason, is larger than our living room. At some point, I'm thinking it was a living area/den/family room and the old owner turned it into a bedroom. There's a wall we'd like to build a built-in bookshelf on with a built-in electric fireplace. Then I'd like to refinish a chaise lounger and make that my little oasis.

Adriana Pereira (adrianacecilia) Bed, always and forever! Though I also like to go to some cafe to read so I can smoke a few cigarettes. I am a heavy smoker but nothing beats that nice cigarette while reading a good book.
During summer I enjoy reading outside in those nice lawn chairs my mom has.

message 10: by C.B. (new)

C.B. Dixon | 2 comments I love to read outside. I have a spot on the beach near the ocean but when it's to windy I go to the park across the street. There are these Peacocks that come join me. It's very peaceful and draws me in to the book even more.

No shame there. My mom is the same way. If it's relaxing for her, so be it.

.•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*•. Christine .•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*• I have a lazy boy recliner chair that I love to read in. I also read in bed or in a nice hot bath. Those would be my favourite spots, but not necessarily the spots where I do the most reading. I have two kids in competitive swimming, so I do a lot of reading sitting around a pool.

message 13: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh (ashleighsbookshelf) I find that my life is spent reading on buses. I commute to uni every day and with an hour each way it's perfect reading time now I've mastered the art of not getting travel sick!

That aside, I'm in bed. Or under my blanket on the settee!

I'm so jealous of that Ashleigh!

Please tell me your secrets?! I don't get travel sick on shorter journeys anymore but if I try and read for too long on them it triggers it off! My bus journey to and from work is about 50 minutes each way so it would be the perfect time for me to sit and enjoy my book but I just end up feeling so queasy if I try to! You're so lucky! I basically sit on the bus and stare longingly at people reading on the bus because I'm so jealous of them! Lol!

message 16: by Francesca (new)

Francesca | 391 comments I generally read at home! Either on the sofa, on/in my bed and if it's warm, sunny weather I'll sit in the garden and read. Although living in England, that happens rarely and only for a few months during spring/summer if we're lucky.
Last year I went on my first holiday abroad in 9 years (second holiday abroad ever) and lying on a sun lounger, by a pool or on the beach, with a cold drink next to me and a book in my hand was literally bliss! I wish I lived somewhere hot so I could do that all the time!

I'd love to read on my journeys to and from work (I love listening to music but sometimes I get a bit bored when I'm just sitting there five days a week with music in my ears) and my journey is about 50 minutes both ways so it would be the perfect time but reading triggers my travel sickness so I end up feeling horrible if I try and read for too long on transport!

Contrary to what you wish for, I sometimes desire for somewhere colder than where I grew up. I am from the Philippines and during summer, I have to find the best sitting position while reading so as not to feel sweat trickling somewhere in my body haha

Haha! I guess that's always the way! I have to admit though it is lovely to wrap up under a blanket on the sofa with a hot chocolate and a book! But I do miss hot weather so much!

message 19: by Diane (new)

Diane Coto (fictionzeal) | 60 comments If it were an option, I'd love to read on a balcony overlooking the ocean, but since that's not an option most days, I like reading in a spare room where I can wrap up in a blanket and really get cozy.

message 20: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Fracaro (kathleenfracaro) | 8 comments I read in my office/guest room. It's quiet and cozy.

message 21: by Sean (new)

Sean Mulrooney | 8 comments At the moment I share a four bedroom house with only my father so I've repurposed a room into my 'little library', complete with bookshelves and a comfortable reading chair :) it's still a work in progress but soon it will be full of books and I'll never leave haha :)

message 22: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 319 comments There are a few places I love to read. Since it is cold and snowy here, curling up on the couch under the skylight is my favorite. In the summer time swinging on the hammock in the backyard is the best.
Like everyone else I take a book with me everywhere so I read whenever I can.

message 23: by Tina (new)

Tina (tjlich) I have a reading nook beside the fireplace that would be perfect for snuggling up with blankets and a great read. But I seem to end up on the sofa or in bed most of the time when I'm indoors. I read on airplanes and on the beach or by the pool in the summer.

I always enjoy a cup or 2 of hot tea while I'm reading.

message 24: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Usually in bed at night. On the couch or our big comfy recliner during the day.

message 25: by Luisa (new)

Luisa (deborahluisa) I usually read at home, in bed as most of you. But in weekends i like to go to a park near my home to sit in the grass, under a tree to read. I do it almost every sunny weekend.

And as Ashleigh i travel a lot. Almost a hour to go to work and another to get home. But i get sick reading on the bus, so i recently got used to audiobooks. I am enjoying this kind of reading these days. :)

message 26: by Megan (new)

Megan (megan_morris) | 170 comments I love reading in the car when I can, and I usually get a lot of reading done very quickly when we travel. But we haven't been doing that lately so, I have to say that my favourite places to read are at work because there isn't people around to disturb, I also love reading outside when I can and soaking up the summer sun. But I'll read anywhere, so long as I have something to read! :)

message 27: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicas_library_card) | 24 comments I like to read downstairs in my dining room, where I've placed a comfy old sofa. Our living space is mostly on the second and third floors, so I'm rarely bothered down there! I wish we had working fireplaces... I live in a very old house, and the non-working fireplaces taunt me!

message 28: by Marina (new)

Marina | 272 comments I too read mostly in the bed. I almost always read half an hour before going to sleep.
When I'm on holiday I also enjoy sitting out in the sun or if it's to warm in the shadow. I find it very relaxing to read outside!

I dream about having my own library at home. Books everywhere and a big, comfortable and cozy armchair besides a fireplace. And maybe even an armchair for my boyfriend as well :-)

message 29: by Narma (last edited Jan 23, 2015 11:21AM) (new)

Narma | 49 comments On my balcony in 75 degree weather, on a lounge chair, overlooking a bunch of buildings, and the ocean :P From Singapore! Hi!

I don't miss the winters!

Ooohhh that's my dream too…once I have my own house I will definitely make a room for that :D
Maybe that is the reason why my favorite Disney movie is The Beauty and the Beast….that library is amazing @@

Anyway, my favorite place to read is definitely my bed.
When the weather is better and my dalmatian is too angry at me not to be with him I go out to the garden lay down on a warm blanket. It's hard to read and "play" with him in the same time though...

message 32: by Marah (new)

Marah (eyreo) I love to read in bed. I wish I had a little nook, but my house is so loud.

message 33: by Cris (new)

Cris (cris_lectora) I love to read in bed, everyday before going to sleep is my favourite time. Right now I have to take the train everyday and I love to read there too. It makes the time pass so quickly!

message 34: by Alina (new)

Alina | 63 comments My favorite place to read is at the beach, later in the afternoon when it isn't as hot, not as crowded and the sun is setting. Most of my reading is actually done with audiobooks during my work commutes. I love to read in bed, but usually fall asleep.

message 35: by molaffle (new)
