Is this why the book is so popular?

In explaining it's popularity, one wrote that most teens go through this period and another stated teens of the time the book was written were beginning to rebel
And can't we relate to it, because, like Holden, we also meet creepy and phoney people and we are misunderstood?

I think this is an important work and effort should be made to understand it Don't think it should be too quickly rejected.
Hopefully posters can help people understand or appreciate what the author was saying.
