It was a YA book, I think the title is sonething about free school lunches. He has a crush on a young black girl in primary school. Years later he meets her again as a stripper I think during his lunch break from work. Sorry its so vague.

When did you read it?Are you sure it's YA and not adult fiction, since the main characters are adults later on?
I'm not sure, but I read it in Primary school so I was 11 or younger and I'm sure I got it at our school library.
Sorry I forgot to add I left school in 1987 to start secondary school.
I've been searching Worldcat, but not much luck.Do free school lunches have a particular name in the UK? I tried searching "school dinners," but the only thing that came up was The School Dinner Disaster, which seems too young.
