This is a fiction book for young adults and/or children that I read in the early 2010s but probably was released earlier than that.
A man has just moved into a house and in it he found a very old magazine. Inside the magazine is an advert that says you can buy nursery rhyme characters. Out of curiosity and believing it is a toy, the main character purchases one and doesn't expect it will even come because of how old the magazine is.
It does come, and it is a child. The child has a tag around their wrist saying what character they are. He orders more. I remember for sure that two of the characters were Paul Bunyan and Jack be Nimble. There were others, but I cannot think of who they are. Every one he orders is a child.
At some point a tree falls on the main character but he turns out to be ok and he decides to raise them as his own kids. At the end he is going through some stuff and finds a tag, similar to the one the nursery characters have, except it has his name on it. He realizes he came from the same place/same type of place as them. I could not find this book anywhere I looked.
