I am close to finishing part 2. All I can say is that the lack of communication among the relatives is an issue and everyone is vulnerable in its way, even Helena.
Well, that's the thing about suspense and unreliable narrators...they have to prolong your ignorance in order to surprise you later. I am most curious about what the husband's been up to. Also, did anybody else pick up on a possible romantic vibe between Sylvie and the cousin?
Is it weird that my favorite character is Estelle?? She brings some lightness to this heavy story. And I absolutely agree, there’s definitely much being left unsaid between the family members. Something I’m not picking up on though is jealousy between the sisters. They seem to adore each other (for different reasons) and speak highly of each other. What am I missing?

They do both see something in the other that they feel they don't have within themselves, but it seems mostly wistfully admiring, to me.
Maybe I read the jealousy wrong, but yes I’m definitely picking up a romantic vibe between Sylvie and Lukas, and a really creepy vibe between Willem and Sylvie.

I have finished the book and am dying to talk it over. When do we meet? Is it not going to be until the end of the month? If that's the case, I'd better make some notes. I will save my Goodreads review until after, so there are no spoilers.
Thanks, yes, we probably won't meet until the first week of June just to give everyone a chance to finish. But I'm eager to discuss as well!

I feel like there's just a lot being left unsaid. If only the characters would sit down and talk to each other, they wouldn't be in the messes they are in. Sylvie and Ma assume the worst of each other, Sylvie and Helena despise each other but they never actually talk, Sylvie and Amy are jealous of each other. I feel like we're supposed to feel sorry for Sylvie, but maybe she is just "secretive" and "difficult."
Thoughts? What are your feelings about Sylvie?
