Man Overboard. – Jonah was a prophet, who was preaching the word of the Lord to the Israelites. One day, God called Jonah and told him to go preach to Nineveh because the people was wicked and needed guidance. Jonah refused and ran from God in the opposite direction of the city to Joppa and boarded a ship headed to Tarshish, when a great storm came. A violent storm arose, the ship was in danger of breaking apart. When the prayer of the crew prove useless they awaken Jonah and told him to pray to his God because the sailor’s was afraid. They asked him what would calm the storm, Jonah said pick me up and throw me into the sea. God had a large fish (some believe to be a whale) swallow up Jonah and he spent 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the large fish. While Jonah was in the belly of the fish he ends up praying for forgiveness. Jonah returned to Nineveh and warned them, that the city would be destroyed and they believed him and repented. (Jonah’s disobedience to God came with consequences, but his obedience to God, caused a whole city to repent and turn from their wicked ways to God.) Why is obedience to God important, the words says in Psalm 128:1 All you who fear GOD, how blessed you are! how happily you walk on his smooth straight road!-DIVINE WORDS BY DIANE.
