The story behind Laavi and Robin's family:
Martin was married to Shelly. Laavi was a planned baby. Robin, however, was not. Martin was cheating on Shelly with Beth and Robin was a surprise. Martin begged Beth to not tell anyone about him and even suggested an abortion. Beth, however, decided to keep the baby. When Robin was born, she gave him to Martin because she herself was financially weak. Martin told Shelly everything and then left her. Shelly raised Robin with Laavi and treated both kids as her own.
To add Katniss's idea
Martin loved both kids and regretted leaving. Shelly wouldn't take him back. He was later kidnapped and asked to give up some of his powers. (He is the god of words) He refused. These kidnappers knew about how attached he was towards his kids and attacked them to force him. It was merely a coincidence that there were always people with the kids.
So what next?))
