Appearance: Ajax has shaggy, black-brown hair that is usually unkempt and reaches down to a little past his chin. He sometimes smooths it all back into a small braid when he feels like it, but usually he just lets it do whatever it wants. His eyes are a murky black with a few gold flecks near the pupils, and sometimes you can see shadows dancing in his eyes. It’s rumored that they even tell stories of mystical lore from the past, but no one knows for sure. His height is about 5’10 and a half, and he has a strong, muscular build. He has well-muscled arms, abs, and legs and has large hands and feet as well. His skin is evenly tanned, and he almost has a more ruddy complexion, his skin actually being closer in tone to olive though. He’s a bit more stockily built with lean, muscular legs and a proportional torso and legs. His bottom lip is slightly bigger than his top one, and he has high cheekbones and sharp facial features. He also has a slightly chiseled jaw and long, dark eyelashes that any girl would envy. Most of his skin is rough and calloused, but the skin on his face and lower back is actually very soft and gentle, like running your fingers through the silky fur of a cat. However, he does have a bit of stubble around his chin, and he normally only shaves it when it gets bad. His body is marred with scars all over, especially on his upper back, chest, abs, and shoulders. He has a small scar above his left eyebrow and another one near the right corner of his mouth. Two, large scars crisscross on his back, and a multitude of shorter ones reside in the skin over his abs and stomach. In flowing script, he has the phrase ‘Semper Fi’ (always faithful) tattooed on the inside of his right forearm, and the word ‘Umbra’ tattooed in cursive on his lower back. His third tattoo is a black lightning bolt on the back of his left shoulder, and his fourth and last tattoo is a crescent moon on the back of his right shoulder with the words ‘Lunae lumen’ (moonlight) in gorgeous script beneath the tattoo.
Ajax much prefers to wear comfy and maneuverable clothing, his favorites being sweatpants and loose T-shirts or tank tops that show off his well-muscled arms, since he can be a bit of a show-off. His favorite shirt is a worn, gray T-shirt that looks more than a little rag-tag with patches of different cloths mending the parts where holes have been ripped in it and a blue and gray plaid, flannel shirt over it that also looks a little worn with mismatched and missing buttons on the front. He usually wears either tennis shoes or a heavy pair of black combat boots with gray fur linings and brass buckles with his outfits. He also has his left ear pierced and always wears a small, silver hoop earring through it. The only other pieces of jewelry he wears are a silver band ring with little onyxes set into it around his right middle finger, a silver chain around his neck with a gold dream-catcher charm with blue, black, gold, and gray feathers, and black skull ring on his left index finger.
Personality: AJ’s defining characteristics are his moodiness, stubbornness, and mysteriousness. He’s prone to random and sudden mood swings for no apparent reason but is normally in quiet, defensive moods. He almost always has a huge ‘don’t talk to me’ sign on his forehead and gives out bad vibes to anyone nearby. He’s even more stubborn than he is moody, and his pride hinders him from admitting his mistakes even when proved wrong. He doesn’t like other people very much and consequently has developed an air of mystery surrounding him. He doesn’t talk much and is the master of the monosyllable, preferring to be left alone in his thoughts. His antisocial behaviors have certainly not made him any friends, and he usually ends up remaining a loner in any new situations he may find himself in. However, he prefers it that way, and because of his cynical outlook on life, would rather be alone than surrounded by stupidity, human or otherwise. He’s slightly depressed and on his especially low days, has taken to cutting on his wrists or stomach, the only thing stopping him at times being Chloe.
Chloe, his childhood friend, is the one of the only people he’s ever allowed himself to get close to, and his constant worries for her leaves little space for his loneliness and depression to steep. To those whom he allows to get close to, he’ll talk more and be more open, but he still is very monosyllabic, preferring to express his feelings with actions, not with words. Once someone has managed to befriend him, they’ve made a friend for life. Ajax will never leave his friends, unless they leave him, and is a loyal and fierce protector until the end. He’ll do anything for those close to him but frequently worries about said friends, wanting to do anything and everything to help them. He’s not particularly good with words, so he expresses his affection by performing acts of service. Even around people he likes, he doesn’t like physical contact much, the only person he ever really touched being Chloe since neither of them were much for physical touch, and Chloe needed the stimulation every now and then to be able to calm down when she was having one of her temper tantrums.
AJ is always wary of strangers and doesn’t trust easily, but if he can sense no ill will from someone, he’ll gladly help them out a bit. He’s not a particularly cruel person when it comes down to it, but he has no qualms about punishing someone who he thinks deserves it. He operates by his own moral code, something that he hopes will rub off on others, and can at best be described as a both a vigilante and a villain.
Though it’s rare that it comes out, AJ has an extremely soft side, especially for nature, baby animals, and Chloe. He keeps it mostly to himself, only ever showing it to Chloe who was the one person he cared for unconditionally, and enjoys tending to nature and frolicking with his forest friends through the trees. He has a bit of a nurturing side to him, and can be extremely gentle and patient when needed, but around most other people, he loses his temper.
His temper is nothing to sneeze at, for when he’s worked up into a real rage, he doesn’t know what’s up and what’s down, only those close enough to him being able to calm him back down. It’s rare that he reaches that point, and it’s tough to make him lose his temper at all. However, it is very easy to irritate him and test his patience, but he won’t lose his temper yet; he’ll just become more moody and will sulk for a while. When he does lose his temper, he doesn’t shout much but mainly takes his anger out physically on the closest thing, even if that thing happens to be another person. He can’t stand hurting his friends either intentionally or unintentionally and falls into a deep depression anytime that happens. Since he’s used to teaching his friends’ tormentors a lesson, he takes his anger out on himself when he is at fault for causing any harm or hurt to come to those close to him. It’s very hard to get him out of his self-deprecating phases as he is caught in a vicious cycle of punishing himself both mentally and physically.

Shadows: AJ can manipulate and create shadows as well as become shadow whether only partially or entirely.
Gloom: AJ can choose to emanate an aura of sadness and despair to various degrees. When he does so, people nearby him may feel indescribably sad, desperate, insecure, hopeless, or lonely, or they may think or do things out of the ordinary, which typically are dangerous or at least self-destructive. Other effects are also possible, depending on the targeted person and how far AJ pushes himself.

Appearance: Chloe has tangled, thick, jet black hair to her waist that she normally keeps in a high ponytail or messy braid since her mass of hair is too much of a hassle to brush out on a daily basis, and big, dark green eyes with small, gray flecks dotted throughout her irises that can sometimes turn into a glowing blood red when she’s angry. Her full height is only roughly 5’5 and a half at best and a source of constant jokes and jabs from others. Her raven locks, combined with her unusually pale skin, give her an almost eerie look, although her skin does tan very slightly during the summertime. She possesses a lean figure with a torso of medium length and legs slightly longer, and she is moderately curvy. Although she is short and slim, that doesn’t mean she lacks muscle. Her calves, abs, and arms in particular have a quite a substantial bit of muscle, and the rest of her is pretty fit as well. Her hands and feet are rather small, even for her height and size, and she has slim shoulders. Though they aren’t broad or especially big, her shoulders still have a nice bit of muscle to them, as do the rest of her arms. Her fingernails are always short and rough, since she bites them down until her fingers bleed, and the skin on her hands and feet is littered with blister marks, bruised toenails, callouses, and lots of rough, dry skin. She also possesses too many scars, burns, and other markings on her body to count, but one of the most obvious ones is a long, pale scar running vertically down the left side of her face. It starts at the outside of her left eyebrow and makes a slightly, outward curved line down to the left corner of her mouth. Her forearms have several, long scars, some inflicted by others and some by her own hand.
Since she can’t stand dresses or anything girly, she is usually seen wearing ripped up pants and a plain shirt or tank top. She almost never goes anywhere without her pair of beat-up boots, though they are falling apart and are barely being held together by strips of filthy, white cloth. She owns no jewelry (not that she’d ever wear any even if she did have some), and her idea of dressy clothing is a pair of pants with few rips, a clean top, and a black leather belt. In addition to owning no jewelry, she also has zero makeup, and even if she did, she would probably never put it on, since it would be too much of a hassle for her. Both her ears have been pierced before, but she only very rarely wears one of two small, silver hoops that she owns through her left ear. Since she bites her nails so much, she never paints them, although she doesn’t have any polish to paint them with in the first place either.
Personality: Chloe is sarcastic, bossy, controlling, stubborn, and a tad self-centered at times. She makes jokes at the most inappropriate times at the expense of anyone or anything and doesn’t care who she offends. She has little to no respect for anyone except herself and a select few and prefers to follow her own will even if she has to break multiple rules to do it. She likes chaos and spontaneity, but she knows she can take charge at any moment. She doesn’t actually have to be in control all the time; she just needs to know that she can be in control of any situation at any time.
Her moods change suddenly and drastically, making her behavior unpredictable and often erratic. One moment she’ll be grinning with mischief gleaming in her eyes and beads of water sparkling in her hair against the sun, and the next she’ll be at your throat (figuratively) with darkness and chaos overtaking the sheen in her grey-flecked eyes. Or at least, that’s how her childhood friend always put it. One instant she’s furious, the next she’s cheery, and then the next she’s trying to hide the tears welling in her eyes with her hair. As her moods shift, her goals, desires, dislikes, and opinions change too, making it nearly impossible to keep up with what’s going on in her head. Most of the time, she can’t even comprehend the rapid changes in her thinking, which only serves to confuse and disorient her. Depending on her current mood, this will also either sadden, frustrate, or outright anger her. The voices she hears in her head do not help with this either, and she sometimes struggles to tell them apart from herself.
Almost everything that comes out of her mouth has at least a sarcastic undertone no matter her mood. It seems to be one of the only constant things about her, and it grounds her, though she does not realize it. The more confused, upset, or angry she is the more sarcastic and spiteful she becomes as she makes no effort to control her mouth. Rose (a voice in her head) will sometimes say she clings to sarcasm, but in typical fashion, Chloe only spits a nasty remark back, usually laced heavily with profanity.
She is a natural leader and always eventually takes charge of things, even if she has to use force to do so. There is only so long that she can put up with the stupidity of other people. Her biggest paradox is her desire for control and love of chaos. She typically wants to be in charge of things, but she also likes it when things don’t go according to plan. And yet she will still berate people for messing things up. Maybe this is because one of her greatest strengths is improvising and thinking on her feet and she wants to put it to use.
All her more negative traits aside, Chloe does have some redeeming characteristics. She is exceedingly perceptive and detail-oriented, and she can think logically and rationally even under pressure and stress. In fact, she might actually perform better under pressure than she does under a lack of it. Intelligent discussions are usually more interesting with her around to provide various facts and her own interpretations on things that she's picked up through casual reading or meticulous research. When something catches her interest, she has a near unbreakable concentration and will not stop until she feels she knows everything there is to know about whatever it is that drew her in, and she has an envious memory that can recall even the most insignificant of details.
Despite how she appears outwardly, she does care for some people, namely her brother and childhood friend, Ajax. She doesn't mind having other friends, though usually she prefers that they don't mind doing adventurous things with her and can tolerate some of her oddities. She also gets along well with people she can have intelligent discussions or debates with, and she also will be friendly to people who offer to play board or card games or any other type of game with her. However, that doesn't always happen often since others first have to get past her strong personality in order to be brave enough to ask her.

Lightning: Chloe can control and create lightning at will. Electricity also runs through her veins, and she cannot be electrocuted by it or any outside source.
Metal: Chloe can manipulate any existing, nearby metals as well as sense the presence of any metals within a certain radius, but she is unable to create them out of thin air.
Chaos: Chloe does not have any true chaos magic; rather she is the personification and embodiment of chaos with her erratic behaviors and unceasing voices in her head that often know things she does not. They act of their own accord and can possess a fluctuating, transparent presence on the material plane. Whether or not others can see or hear them is up to them, not Chloe, though she can always see them if they leave her head.

Appearance: Rowan’s appearance is generally clean and neat, though with a few exceptions. He keeps his thick, orange-red hair combed and slicked back, but since it is especially unruly, there is a strand or two that escapes the rest and hangs in his face more often than not. He doesn’t mind this too badly as long as it doesn’t majorly obstruct his vision. He stands at roughly 5’9, and while he slouched in effort to become invisible or unnoticed at one point in time, he now holds himself perfectly straight with impeccable posture, having since learned the benefits and detriments of bad posture. The most handsome aspect of his appearance is his eyes, and it is one of the only physical traits he receives compliments on. They are wide, shining, and bright emerald in color, and they display immense solemnity and seriousness. His skin is nearly sheet white; blue-green and purple veins are clearly visible on the undersides of his forearms and in a few other places. A couple of freckles appear very faintly on his cheeks and nose, and he has a small birthmark in the vague shape of a lightning bolt on the back of his left shoulder. His facial features are fine albeit bony. Long, ebony lashes frame his eyes, and light ginger eyebrows arch slightly over. He has high, sharp cheekbones, a small nose, moderately broad forehead, slightly pointed chin, delicate ears, and thin lips that never seem to contain much color. His neck is slender and elongated to just the right degree, and his build is lean and lanky, almost too lean. He is clearly an exceptionally bony individual, though less so in the face as compared to the rest of his body. His spine protrudes a little from his back, and most of his ribs are visible in the absence of any items of clothing covering them. He possesses large hands with slender, gentle fingers and narrow feet with neatly trimmed toenails. His fingernails are often uneven or ragged from being habitually chewed on in frustration, nervousness, or boredom. His usual expression is a thoughtful or worried frown, and he has no laugh lines.
Normally, Rowan wears casual clothing, namely blue jeans and simple, button-down shirts. He will never been seen wearing shorts, sweatpants, sandals, or polo shirts, though he will wear T-shirts on occasion if he is in the privacy of his own home. For messy experiments or certain things that need doing around the house like a paint job or gardening, he dons ripped jeans, old shirts, and worn sneakers. In winter or cold weather, he wears sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, leather jackets, scarves, fur coats, or boots, but he will also wear flannel if he is staying in. For some reason, he owns a lot of plaid flannel in his closet. For occasions that require him to dress up, he wears suits or vests with gold or emerald accents to complement what little looks he possesses, silk ties or bowties, and dress shoes. Sometimes he will add a pocket watch he inherited from his grandfather to his outfit as well. He shies away from clothing that is white or certain shades of yellow that make him look paler than he already is. He owns several pairs of glasses as he is always losing them, but he uses them only for reading because he has strained his eyes by reading for excessive amounts at a time and in the dark far too often.
Personality: Rowan is the quiet, studious Darkwoode sibling. Almost every second of his spare time is spent reading textbooks or drawing up experiments, and he reads nonfictional materials almost exclusively as he finds little use for fiction and pleasure reading. He is most skilled in philosophy, physics, and botany, but any field of science and any branch of math comes easily to him as well. In his opinion, the English language is stupid, and everyone should just go back to speaking Latin, which makes much more sense. He’s read the entirety of Newton’s Principia as it was originally written in Latin multiple times over the years, and sometimes he writes notes, assignments, and papers in Latin first and then later translates them before turning them in to the teachers. If he is alone, he reasons things out loud when he can’t quite grasp something just by reading, but usually this is done in Latin as well. Because of his excessive use of it, the way he phrases sentences when speaking normally is a little unusual and takes some getting used to since in English most people do not place the verbs dead last when talking or writing. However, he does have a unique perspective on things as a result and does not often waste time with meaningless words. He firmly believes that if there is nothing useful to say, silence is better than pointless time-filler.
He does not always have his nose stuck in a book, which is a common misconception other people have had about him. Oftentimes he can be found performing some experiment on the castle grounds or further out on the island, and these can vary within a wide range of classifications. Sometimes he repeats famous experiments from history or science textbooks, but just as frequently, he designs his own. Most of his experiments relate to physics or botany, and in the past he has been chewed out for damaging some of the flowers and other plants in the garden. Over the years he’s gotten more precise with his experimental procedures and hasn’t accidentally killed any plants or almost electrocuted himself in a long while. The teachers, staff, and some others have told him time and time again to do things in the classroom under supervision with proper equipment, but Rowan highly prefers to do things on his own time in his own way. Making his own tools is half the fun, and anything he doesn’t know how to create, he can learn from the library or the internet.
Science is not the only thing he experiments with. He can and will apply the scientific method to just about anything (which is probably why he isn’t great at social interaction) and uses it to determine the specifics of magic, including effects, triggers, and other mechanisms. He is such a logical and rational thinker to the point that social cues and unspoken rules evade him. Over time he’s gotten slightly better at interacting with others and knows most of the polite responses to casual small talk, though he finds it frustrating and incomprehensible. Consequently, he tries to avoid it at all costs and rarely talks to other people unless they can answer one of his questions or he’s carrying out some type of survey or something. He doesn’t mind conversations with other people if the topic is something of interest to him and if the other person can think clearly and logically and can follow his premises and conclusions, but he does not do well in discussions with multiple people at once and can only handle conversation well with one person at a time.
Rowan is a sensitive and thoughtful person. He doesn’t always know how to tell someone directly that they are important to him, but he definitely has a kind way of showing it. When he cares for someone (family or a close friend), he demonstrates it by performing acts of service and being as helpful as possible. While he is not adept at comforting words when someone close is upset, he does his best to be supportive and uses his analytical prowess to find possible solutions to whatever problems his friends and family may be facing. For birthdays and special occasions, he takes a break from his studying and favorite pursuits to make homemade gifts, since in his opinion homemade presents are more special and meaningful, and though he does not like any sort of parties or social events, he will bear them as long as possible if it will make his family or friends happier. However, he usually does not last the entire time and has to recuse himself back to the library or somewhere quiet outside the castle.

Power:
Void: Rowan’s only power has two, main applications. Relating to magic and magical beings, Rowan’s ability allows him to negate the effects of magic by absorbing the energy himself. He cannot use the magic of others when he does this, but he does achieve a bit of an emotional high from it until his system eventually breaks it down and dissipates it into nothingness or returns it to the outside world. The other application of his magic is an inadvertent effect. At all times his magic projects an invisible aura around him that attacks anything magical nearby with range, including spells, creatures, and people. Because of this, magical beings nearby suffer a slight drain on their powers and normally feel slight nausea or fatigue, minute headaches, or other similar effects. He can increase the power of his aura at will, but as soon as he is far enough away from others, the effects of his aura fade away. Also once he is out of range of others, any faculties or potency that were temporarily gone while he was near will return.
