YA Sci-Fi. Simulated reality story, characters mentally create Garden of Eden. Spoiler ahead.

Read around the early 2000's. The main characters are I believe 2 teens that wake into a world where everyone is gone except them and few other people. They try to find out what happened after they meet and then they realize that the reality they live in is one created by their thoughts. (Possibly their world was created by people outside their reality, sending people into to study the world they created). The ending is the 2 main characters concentrating hard enough to transform the world into an ideal one for them, which was based on their idea of what the Garden of Eden would be like. I believe one character was raised in religion, and the Garden of Eden story was one they remembered from their childhood.

Sorry for the late reply! I would say that the book is sci-fi for YA
