Keith Peterson | 1 comments I have written and publish one book so far:
Gold Rush by Keith Peterson
http://www.amazon.com/dp/1500659967/
(Middle Grade adventure novel, 212 pages)Gold Rush

I found that to help motivate me in the writing process, organize my thoughts, and push through to the end of the book, I used an MS Excel spreadsheet.

I tracked started with a target word count and an target end date and made a chart to reflect that line. Then I logged each chapter with the date and word count so that it would show on my chart. This gave me a visual guide to see if I was on track to finishing on time or falling behind. I was able to finish ahead of schedule and 31500 words (my goal was 30K) by biting off small pieces each day. Editing was a whole different animal but you can't do that until you first write the book.

Anyone else have a technique they use to get through their book?
