I never read this book, but it was mentioned a lot in another book that I did read, Holding up the universe, and now I want to read this one, probably when I am a little older. Holding up the universe made it sound very dark, and pretty old. I don't know when it came out but it had to have come out probably at least a year before 2016, because that is when Holding up the Universe came out. I know the main character's name is Mary Catherine, Merricat for short, and that she lives in a huge castle with her family (I am not sure if they are royalty, though). I think she poisons everyone in her family but her sister? Merricat might have a black cat, but I am not sure. Sorry this is so vague, but I have never actually read it. Please help. Thank you!
