So I originally hated Kreacher, and then, I read Deathly Hallows and he won my heart. I hated that they didn't add Kreacher's Story to the movie or that he becomes so nice and makes them food all the time. :(

I loved the character! I also thought Kroecher's story was worth telling in the movie but unfortunately it wasn't and I got really disappointed for that. Still I remember him with affection and I'm glad to know his story. (:
Same, I thought he was so lovely in the book! Almost as cute and endearing as Dobby, who I also wished appeared more often in the films. I think that he was a character done very cleverly because, as you say, you start off hating him and end up loving him as you understand his story and he starts to soften up.
I felt sorry for him somewhere around book 5. And I kinda liked him in book 7. Not all that much though, after all, it is practically all his fault Sirius died.

I was fond of ALL the house elves, especially Dobby in which I regret not appreciating him until (view spoiler)
But yes and I wish Sirius respected Kreacher more
Kreacher just wanted to be loyal to his master. He was adorable, especially when SPOILER!!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK OR SEEN THE MOVIE!!!!!!!
Dobby and Kreacher bring back Mundungus Fletcher to the Black house.
I wouldn't say I adored him, I found his character interesting. Through Kreacher jk is trying to show how important how you treat your inferiors is. Yes Sirius should have treated Kreacher better but kreacher was loyal to his mother who treated him miserably. So Sirius hated them, that house and everything to do with it.
It was difficult to like Kreacher given his gloating to Harry about how Sirius would soon be dead, when he could have shed a little more light on the subject. I personally wasn't all that fond of Sirius, but I was even less fond of Kreacher's attitude. The seventh book did an excellent job with him, though. It's not very often that an author can get away with turning a jerk into a likable character (or at least one that we can sympathize with), yet J.K. manages to do it with several characters throughout the series... if only she was as effective at doing this with some of the protagonists.
