Blogger Looking for Books to Review

Hello! I am a young Canadian novel enthusiast who takes great pleasure in seeking out new books to read. Currently, I have 2 blogging sites up, as well as a Facebook page and a youtube channel; all on which I'll be posting reviews. Every genre is welcome! I especially enjoy Victorian style literature.

Hey Marita,
I see your looking for books, can you perhaps post links to your blog and YouTube channel so we have a better idea of how you review books? Im not sure how into poetry you are but I have two books of poetry and a western horror that I've written. Also I know of an author on here who has written some great Victorian style horror novels. I'm not sure if they are available for paperback though, I will check and get back to you if your interested.

Poetry is the raison d'etre! Yes it's wonderful, I enjoy it.

You would not believe how many of these I've sent books to and never heard from again. Why don't you get an ereader so we can send you books at no cost to us. If you have any kind of tablet, you can read any of my books very cheaply. Most tablets have a Kindle app. I also have them free from time to time.

I'm not saying the original poster is a culprit, but some people sell the received books, profiting from the authors generosity.

The question I find myself asking is that as the person has access to a computer and spends time blogging why don't they accept digital files?
I'm also curious about why someone who is so passionate about review writing hasn't written any on goodreads despite being a member for over two years.

First of all.. I work two jobs in which neither allow any electronics, kindle/cellphone/tablet or otherwise. Secondly, I decided that I'd like to start reviewing novels a few days ago, and subsequently made a relevant Facebook page as well as blogs.

It's perfectly alright that you would rather not have your books reviewed by me. No skin off my nose, however, might you please step away from a) calling me a culprit, b) attacking my preferred method of reading, and c) if you don't have anything nice to say by all means refrain from posting.

Everyone starts somewhere. And high school was most definitely not the opportune time to start collecting authors new works and reading them, not with the course load as it was. I now have free time and thought I'd do this for authors who appreciate reviews.


Ps. I don't give away books, ESPECIALLY ARCs or otherwise.

Hi Marita! I would love a review of my upscale romance Shadowed Lights. I'm on my tablet now but will email a PDF from my publisher email account when I get back on my PC. Sorry I can't do a physical copy. It's mainly an eBook with only a limited print run.

If you have a dedicated computer you can use Calibre to read e-books in a variety of formats.

I note your website is blank. Where are you reviewing books? Where can authors see the type of reviews you write?

Perhaps rather than asking authors to post you paperbacks (which is an expensive exercise for us and we aren't all rolling in cash) you should build your web presence first by reviewing books you can check out of your local library?

Also given you only have 29 "likes" on your FB page, who exactly are you promoting your blog and reviews to? What is your audience?

This does come across as a little scammy. As an author I constantly receive emails from people offering to read/review my book if I send them a free paperback. Authors need to pay their bills too.

If a blogger is reading/reviewing I always send an e-book and I always look at following, reach and traffic first. Paperbacks are only for competitions and giveaways, they are simply too expensive to hand out.

I can't stress enough that you need to build a presence first, review free books to start off and gain followers.

I don't think anyone referred to the possibility of you giving away books. The issue Emma raised was that some people who request physical books sell them therefore profiting from an author's hard work and generosity.

The last person who tried this on goodreads shut up when I asked him if he wanted to stock his book shop. It attracted a few more amused comments.

She did offer to review PDFs. Maybe so she can print them to read. Maybe she's telling the truth. Dang, people. As a new reviewer myself, I hadn't had but maybe two reviews up on Goodreads when I started. The only reviews I'd done were 10-15 years ago on Amazon. Not all of us have lived their lives on the Internet, typing madly away so some author could gain a star or two.

I'm not claiming I know Marita. But I know me. And in case people have missed it, many folks are completely anti-e-reader. If you don't want her to review your hard copy book, move on.

I've been attacked on Goodreads before for my review preferences. Oh, and when I started my Facebook page, I had less likes than Marita. I'm just sayin', girl gotta start somewhere.

If you are for real, Marita, keep trying. But I'd recommend not doing it here. Tweet your books and a few other places allow you to post your reviewer profile. Most of my reviewer traffic comes from there. Make sure you set guidelines up on your website, also.

I'll send you a PDF of my book if you're interested in YA romance. No paper copies of it yet. :-(

Personally I can't afford an e-reader, my tiny demon would destroy it quickly, hence why I know about Calibre for those rare moments when I can read a book these days.

Facebook isn't always an option for everyone either.

Your local public library will gladly provide as many recently released books as you like, featuring any genre you might be in the mood to review at the time.

Most libraries today have various formats available for borrowing - hard cover, paperback, e-book, and audio book. Check them out. You will be glad you did.
