I will read Network Effect this month but hopefully could still comment in the June thread.

BTW, I thought it was Theory of Bastards that won the PKD award?

Well, if I never say anything in the thread again, it's because GR will not let me set for notification only.

Is anyone else getting instant email when the group is set for notifications only?

I have "Notify me when people reply" -- enabled and I get emails, which autofilters to my GR folder.

well, I don't want emails from GR, sh I set any group I want to follow for "notifications only." But then, apparently when there's a new discussion, I get an instant email anyway. It sets itself to that instead of notification only. And it has only been doing it for a little while. Like 4-6 weeks. Really aggravating.

I know there is no one to complain to. But sometimes I miss posts & stuff for a while.

You may try to use filters in your mail client. This allows to move these notifications from your inbox

ok, I checked what to do. Here on GR go to your account (upper right corner, your avatar) there is 'email' and there are checkboxes - uncheck what you don't need

yep, on my account settings/emails page, I have the groups all set to notification only. I always have. And it used to follow that direction perfectly until a few months ago. Now, even if the group I am posting in is marked notification only, it seems to automatically send an email whenever there's a new thread. I have to go in and manually defeat it.

It's just annoying, that's all. Others in another group are having this same glitch.

That would be really annoying, I've also got things set to notification-only because I don't need emails from goodreads spamming me.

I think Z's idea about a filter that automatically skips your inbox is a good idea (it's pretty easy to do with gmail, if that's what you use).

I like the filter idea, but then I won't get ANY notifications, so I will miss out on discussions. I'm just going to have to put up with it, I guess.

Can't speak for others, but I was beaten to the punch: I would've nominated Network Effect, as well. For 2019 I was going to go with some Hugo nominee, so I was happy when Silvana already nominated To Be Taught, If Fortunate.

Thanks for the Cormorant input, Z. I just nominated it because we just got it for free. The one I am really interested in is "The Network Effect."

I have already read "To Be Taught, If Fortunate"

So I will be reading for you in just the one, which certainly looks like the winner.

Also, I may continue with Docile from this month. It read well, it was just, well, off-putting. I don't know how else to describe it.

Maybe I can get "Sharks in the Time of Saviors" from the library and read it next month--the wait time is supposed to take 9 weeks though. Z, do you think I will like it?

It is not a SFF novel, but more or less a contemporary lit with Latin American flavor. If you have read books by Gabriel García Márquez you'll know what I mean. There is a bit of magical realism (view spoiler)[one of the characters is possibly a god-touched by Hawaiian deities and can cure people (hide spoiler)] but nothing 'truly' SF or fantasy

Well, I'll skip it for now, probably. The library basically only lets us have 10 holds at a time now unless it is a new or just purchased book, so if I am not in the queue when the book comes out, I have a hard time making room for it in my holds. I didn't have this one because I did not know about it.

I advise to try a single novella (there were free on Tor.com this May) to see if you like it. They are short easy reads

I did read the first one and found it okay, but not as great as a lot of other folks love it. So I didn't buy the rest (they are very pricey for their number of pages). I got the free novellas from tor last weeks, but it will take me some time to get around reading them.

I'm hoping to join for both of these reads. Might even buy both books!

The murderbots are quick. I couldn't put them down. Basically, read together, the sum is greater than the parts. They are OK novellas. But I plan to read them over again as a novel, because that's what they really are, taken together
