Uuuggggghhhhh it doesn't stop with the uncomfortable situations!!! I'm reading through every section so fast because I don't want to linger on those Cathy/Chris scenes for too long.

As if that whole thing wasn't making me mad enough, Corrine just sucks. The way she's gaslighting her own children makes me sick. Basically this whole book is making me mad and frustrated. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED, VC ANDREWS?! ARE YOU HAPPY?!? LOL

Jen | 27 comments Corrine does suck!! How did she change so quickly! Was she always this terrible? She went from the perfect mother to a monster?? Maybe she was always a manipulator?? I also can't stop questioning the blind loyalty of her children. They are so trusting and willing to believe her for so long. I know that she is their mother but c'mon.

Yeah at least Cathy sees through it a little, but then she goes back on those feelings with guilt for being suspicious of her kosher in the first place! It's very frustrating!
I think Corrine is just not cut out for hard work. She needs to be taken care of, so she'll do anything to make sure her life stats that way.

payton (horror_reading) This section made me feel a range of emotions. I was uncomfortable, angry and sad. I actually cried through a lot of this section. Corrine's change was very maddening to read, and I'm starting to believe they're not going to leave the bedroom, though it's probable we'll get a happy ending. I hope so.

Emily Sorce | 3 comments The ending was SO sad. From Cory’s death, to the reveal that the grandfather had been dead for some time, and that the donuts had been poisoned. They’re really living one of the soap operas that they watch every day. Because Corinne kept saying the grandfather could die any day, I definitely think either she or the grandmother were poisoning him every day too, and it took longer because he wasn’t as small and underdeveloped as the four kids. Corinne is definitely one of the biggest villains in fiction. I know this is a 40 year old book, but I still feel the need to start a go fund me for therapy for the Dollanganger kids 😂
