I'm glad Catcher is an outcast as I've never understood what value they bring to the table. Mallory being able to create the spells and magic she did, undetected was abysmal enough but to have escaped them? Inexcusable.
The guy from the order that they had teaching her was incompetent. How could he not know what she was doing? At the time, I even thought he may have put her up to it but that would have been giving him credit for being intelligent.
I actually feel like Neill hasn't fleshed out The Order as much as I would like. They're clearly supposed to be a big deal in this world but I don't have a good feel for them. I would love to know a bit more. Right now I would say they're a bit of a joke. I'm really glad Catcher has nothing to do with them. I have a teeny crush on Catcher :).
Agreed Erin. I think that its a limitation of first person POV. As we are only privy to the information that Merit has and as her knowledge of the Order (and some other groups) is limited, so is ours.
Good points. So until Merit has a better understanding, we won't know. So far, however, there's no one who can credibly build their case except Paige and even she was having her doubts.
Lauren wrote: "Agreed Erin. I think that its a limitation of first person POV. I hadn't considered it as a limitation of the POV. Although I guess the author could have Merit learn more so that we could understand them better.
I really liked Paige too! Loved the beginning when she propositioned Ethan. Lol! Ethan's response was endearing too. Something about Merit taking another of his lives if he took her up on her offer.
Maybe Catcher can get together with Paige instead of Mallory :).
I found the discussion we had about Mallory in Hard Bitten, book #4. Boy did we hit the nail on the head!

Wow Jonetta! It's amazing how spot on we were about her and that our thoughts on her relationship with Merit haven't changed at all.
If I didn't know better I'd be thinking the same thing! 'Tis a rare thing for me to get these kinds of matters right:)
For a while, I thought Simon was working with Mallory. Turns out he is just incompetent. The Order seems very weak. It kind of reminds me of the GP. Stay out of the business of the world and just plod along in your own world. Maybe Catcher & Paige (and probably Mallory) will start a new Order.
I also thought he was in on it, Robin. Yes, the various groups are very isolationist. The shifters are like that too. They don't want to get involved in issues that aren't directly related to them.

Agree completely, Robin, though I'm not sure I want Mallory involved.
