K.N. (karmaplace) | 32 comments Hello, I'm Kaitlin, 26 years old, and back home in upstate NY after living in South Korea for 5 years. I'm somewhat employed at an eccentric and eclectic bookstore. I read a mixture of history, science fiction, fantasy, supernatural/paranormal, and science books, primarily.

My favorite book of all time (I reread and refer to it religiously) is The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (link) by Douglas Adams, though my favorite "queer" book that I've read is a little known and out-of-print science fiction gem called The Merro Tree (link) by Katie Waitman. It's a space opera about an alien entertainer in a same-sex interspecies relationship, and it's just beautiful.

I look forward to participating in this group!

Welcome! What was it like living in Korea—better internet connection I hear.

And The Merro Tree really looks interesting. Now I have to get another books to find the time to read ;-). I'm a space opera fanatic.

K.N. (karmaplace) | 32 comments It was a fantastic read! I highly recommend finding a copy when you have the time!

Korea was fun. Faster internet, over 80% of the population with smart phones, late night eating and drinking, great (but kind of crazy) public transport... It's definitely still in my mind!

I read the Merro Tree a couple of months ago and you're right. It's beautiful. And I love the ending.

Douglas Adams is by far my favorite author--I think we'll get along just fine. ;)

mountaingoat (laughingdoves) Welcome to the group, you have great taste in books! Hitchhiker's is absolutely brilliant, haven't seen anything come close in terms of the combination of science fiction, wit and creativity. The Merro Tree does sound like a gem, a little sad to hear that it's out of print, hopefully there are affordable copies floating around.
And South Korea! Lucky! I'm not brave enough to go but I'm addicted to K-drama.
Nice to meet you. ^^
