A run of chapters that gives more information about Tom. That he is seemingly very content living alone on Janus Rock and tending to the lighthouse...and he is good at it too.
There's information that he is estranged from his family and from his mother since childhood...I wonder why that happened within his family, and when/if we as readers are going to find out more details about it. As yet we only know the bare bones of the situation...
We get to see a little about Isabel and her empathy for others and determination to get close to Tom.
There's approximately a 9 year age gap between the two...with Isabel being only 19 years old. Isn't it funny how in that era (right after WWI) it wasn't seen as a big deal...could you imagine these days a 19 year old girl wanting to/planning to marry an almost 28 year old man? We'd all be like..."no, she's too young for him!"
