And I like our MC voice! She seems a great person, and the way in which she talks of her old self, well, she too seems a great person, and it is sad to see her closing up now!!

And it was also interesting seeing what brought them to writing. They came from two really different places, quite the opposite really!
And awwww!! Gus kept track of the guys she datesd back in the days. It may be a tad creepy, but also... awww!
I am really enjoying the book, but I was hoping to get more secondary characters, and we don't get them in these chapters. Sigh! (hide spoiler)]

We get to see more of the secondary characters in these chapters, and I am really happy about it, but it is not enough! They have a ton of potential, and yet we don't get to see them so much. Disappointing!

First Quarter - (view spoiler)[Okay, I’m already really liking this one. I don’t read massively in the romance genre, mainly but bought the three Emily Henry books for my mother’s Birthday and thought I’d read them too.

The entire first quarter was basically explained in the synopsis - January and Gus meeting, their struggles to write, and the wager they make to pen a book in each other’s chosen genre. I love their equal grumpiness, the focus on the struggles they are dealing with, and the subtle humour already shown. I can feel this is going to be a book with a lot of heart. January’s father’s death and the exposed second life he was leading has shaken her entire existence and I already feel connected to her and her suffering. (hide spoiler)]

Second Quarter - (view spoiler)[I assumed that this would be a split-perspective book but it’s already been proven to be otherwise. Gus is a likeable but closed off character and I’m eager to learn more about him. His conversations with Grace and his focus on a cult at the heart of his fictional story could be a clue to his own suffering too.

As someone who writes, I also really like the sections that focus on their writer’s block and their struggles with getting words on the page. I highlighted the whole two pages about dedicating 10,000 hours into something make you a master of it but the same can’t be said for writing as it has so many minute elements too it. It made me feel very supported somehow. (hide spoiler)]

Third Quarter - (view spoiler)[The line dancing night ended in Gus revealing some of his secrets, including those about his childhood and failed marriage leaving him feeling like he’d never been any one’s choice. I already loved his character but I feel so incredibly soft for both January and him now. They are such sweet souls! I loved their written interactions between their windows and witty irl conservations. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth Quarter - (view spoiler)[ ”I don’t need snowflakes… As long as there’s January.” Are you freaking KIDDING ME?? This book was the softest!! I was looking for a quick, fun time but loved this duo as much as they ended up loving each other. I loved the focus on their romance but the focus on their healing through their viewpoints of the world was my favourite thing of all. (hide spoiler)]

Him breaking up with his girlfriend years ago at that party via phone because he was going to kiss January was honorable. I am liking the banter. Reply to 2nd Quarter: As someone that doesn't write I couldn't imagine the struggles... you have to love it to spend 10,000 hours consumed by it... (view spoiler)[ I like that Gus does his diligent research and interviews about his subject matters. I love that he has brought January with him to interview Grace, I liked that January was supportive of Grace if Grace didn't want to really divulge about her sister joining a cult and ending up dead. I liked that January was empathetic with the whole snort when she laughs memory Grace had of her sister. (hide spoiler)]

I loved that they got to dance in the rain and that January sold the beach house to a family with kids that will make their memories there. I love her friend Shadi, she just told her she needed her and she was out in the next train... I need a friend like that. I was happy she had all those letters to feel her father one more time and whenever she felt like it... those letters were cute. (hide spoiler)]
