I am looking for a young adult fiction genre book series, which I read at some point between 2007 and 2011. The book, I believe, was fairly new at that point- maybe a few years after it was published.
The title was outcast or outlander or overlander. The covers were all shades of orange, yellow, and red-brown.
It followed a young boy who was 12 summers old. The world was very primitive- they lived in tents, had a shaman, they hunted, cooked around a fire, had a chief or leader. This boy may have veen the cheifs son, or an orphan in the tribe.
Something happened and the boy had to go on a quest to the outlands, maybe to catch someone he let go, or to find water or food or something. Maybe it was his coming-of-age thing, or he did it to become a man. I dont remember why he left, maybe he was cast out. I remember him coming across a man who was an outcast, or who had been kicked out of his own tribe, and the man had a scar on his face. I think it looked like the letter "S" with three claw marks and it went from the corner of his lip to just under his eye covering most of his cheek. It was the mark of an outcast, or mark of a killer or something, so the mans tribe had branded him before making him an outcast.
I remember the boy learning how to hunt, and he maybe met a girl who was from a different tribe, around his age. I have a sense that at some point something happened and the two kf them had to escape somewhere. He maybe brought her back to his village.
I dont remember much more as I was the type of kid to read 10-15 books in a week, so i just remember general bits.
