It is also weirdly associated with an audiobook version of Return of the King when it should be associated with a paperback. Very much appreciate the help!

Marielle | 15 comments Superlibrarian needed for this, my puny librarian powers are useless:

This is incorrectly attributed to Cicero, who left behind many textual works, none of which contain this quote:

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/5621...

Quote investigator says it's derived from a quote from the early 1900s in which a writer summarises the contents of an Assyrian tablet seen in a museum in Constantinople, and was probably made up to begin with. Definitely NOT Cicero.

Mike_G | 4 comments Hi, looking for librarian assistance.

Request to delete quotes

Hello. Can you please remove quotes attributed to The King Who Disappeared – Hank Quense, as they are actually from a different book and were added to this book by mistake. I have deleted them from my quotes but they are still showing on the book quotes.

The following need to be removed.
From the scene arrayed before her now, Tsula knows this new body means something entirely different. The tight bunchings of onlookers in hushed conversation. The watery eyes and mouths covered by fingers. This is how people gather when the dead is one of their own.

The current needs of survival leave little time for luxuries like sentimentality. It is, he figures, a kind of mercy. No time to dwell on what was lost when there is more yet to protect.

Junior finds what he’s seeking in a swale between two ridges. He glasses down at the elk from a hillside aflame with autumn color. The animal strides through the clearing about five hundred yards due east, dipping its head now and then to nibble on receding grass that soon will disappear for the winter.

In the years that followed, Tsula would find that she could not recall that walk to the edge or the thrust of her legs into the air. Her clearest memory more than twenty years later is of the long, breathless wait as she fell, seemingly forever, and the water swallowing her at last. When she burst from its surface, unhurt, her mind noisy and electric, she grabbed for Jamie and kissed him hard.

Harlan chuckles to himself and shakes his head, as though enjoying a joke only he has heard. ‘Now I guess it’s only fair to warn you,’ he says. ‘This is not going to go the way you want it to.’

“Tsula and Abbott spy the cabin in a clearing beyond the trees. It appears almost spectral through the gossamer mist—at first, just a hint of a shape. A blocky shadow rising from the ground.

I've changed the quote's author to "unknown" as the "corrected" version is also of questionable origin according to the Quote Investigator post.

Since quotes on Goodreads must have an author who meets the notability standard, they should not have Unknown as their author (unless they come from a specific book for whom Unknown the is correct author on Goodreads).

Quote deleted.

Same page, another anon. I am not sure what gets done with these. Google doesn't immediately find the quote.

“Dublin is following in the footsteps of Portugal and Italy in issuing 30-year debt at a time when yields on eurozone bonds are hitting record lows following the European Central Bank’s decision to begin a €60bn-a-month government bond-buying programme. Portugal sold €2bn of its long-dated bond at a yield of 4.13 per cent, while Italy’s €6.5bn equivalent bond was priced to yield 3.29 per cent. Investor appetite for longer-term bonds has increased in recent months as yields on shorter-term debt fall, in some cases trading in negative territory. According to JPMorgan, the total universe of government bonds trading with a negative yield was $3.6tn last week, or 16 per cent of the JPM Global Government Bond index.”

For future requests, it would be easier when the link is to the page with just the problematic quote. I could not find all quotes on the links you provided, since quotes might have been added or deleted since you posted, but was able to find them from the author's page of quotes.

Generally, a person is notable if they have been the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject.

message 333: by readerofbooks (new)

readerofbooks | 7 comments Hello Librarians, I hope you can help me out. I'm a VA for H.S. Howe, and have been making Goodreads Quotes for all of their books.

For the first time, I've had problems with the tags. My guess is that one time I spelled their book title incorrectly down in the tags, so now it keeps using those specific tags.

But I saw the incorrect spelling of the book title and removed the quote and tried to make it again. The issue is it's automatically added that wrong spelling again and again, no matter how many times I try to write the right spelling and with different tags, finding new words to use except for the book title and the author name. I've waited several days before trying again, and manually typing in different words in the tags, but it still does the same thing.

Then another problem is, some of those quotes can't be deleted. I've clicked 'remove' on them, but they're still there. I logged out of my account to go and check the author's Goodreads page and on their "Willfully Wanton" book page, down by the quotes, the removed quotes are still there, even though I clicked to remove them. And now the 'remove' button isn't there anymore when I click on the individual quotes, where you usually always have the option of clicking 'remove'. The quotes are there, and they are in my "in my quotes" section as well.

So I write the correct tags manually, but once I've clicked "post" then when the page is refreshed, it's incorrectly spelled again!!! I'm so confused about this.

So could you please edit these 6 quotes, because I can't do it myself? Change it from "Wilfully Wanton" to the correctly spelled "Willfully Wanton"?

All 6 of these quotes, please: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/...

And then, since I couldn't add any new quotes from the book without it automatically going back to the wrong spelling, I waited a few days and then made some quotes WITHOUT writing the book title, but I would love if you could add the book title in these 3 quotes in the tags, please? The book title is "Willfully Wanton."

1) https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1102...

2) https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1102...

3) https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1102...

Lastly, will you please delete this 1 quote?
(I removed it myself, but went to check and I can just still see it is there. And there is no option to click 'remove' again.

1) https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1102...

If you help me, then thank you SO SO SO much. I appreciate it greatly. :)

Arenda | 26448 comments #338 done

"Remove" relates to the "My Quote" section of your profile. Only Librarians can delete quotes. I've merged the duplicate quote into the other version of the same quote.

Please remember that the correct punctuation for author names on GR is to include a period after each initial. Amazon has the author listed as H.S Howe (missing the period after the S), which is not according to GR policy and will create a second author profile when books are imported from Amazon to GR.

for :

#341 This will need to wait for a Kafka expert. I've looked in both of my books of quotes & the quote isn't there. looking online one otherwebsite says it is from his diaries 1910-1923. Can anyone confirm.
#342 I'm getting page not found. Can another librarian take a look at this? Edit: a Super confirmed this one has been done.
#343/344 I had already done. Just noting here to avoid confusion.
#345 Yes, your author has the two space profile. In future, please don't put the title of the book in your quote. A selection of books will come up after you enter the author name .:)
#346 Erica. I have hopefully deleted all the quotes with 0 likes. There were a couple that show having 1 like but I can't see the name of the person who liked them. Another librarian may be able to advise, but I am taking it that the member recently removed the quote off their list so I might be able to delete in a couple of days. I cannot delete quotes with likes. If I missed any with 0 likes let me know in this thread. For future requests please number the quotes (or anything else) & put a line break after every fifth one.
