I started last night and got to chapter 5. I am liking this so far. I haven't read anything by Jennifer E. Smith before, but I am enjoying this. (view spoiler)

Good morning Christina! Or good night to you! I'll be starting this sometime today :-) almost done with the next book in that private series, bummer he got ruined for you :-(
Starting this now, finish my other book, went to my son's baseball game, went out to lunch, now I'm home and going to read!
OK, I'm going to crawl into bed and read, so I might fall asleep, this is cute, not a lot to make a comment about to be completely honest, but a cute story. I don't actually believe in love at first sight, but I suppose there could definitely be an attraction at first sight, LOL!
Chapter 1I'm not sure I like the writing. It's simple and everything but it's clumsy. And I've never liked third person in present tense; it just sounds wrong to me.
I also hate it when mom is used like a proper noun, especially in third person. Like, what's up with that? Maybe this book was designed to make me uncomfortable.
I really do prefer first person, but third person is fine, I've even read some books recently and second person they were pretty darn good. But, isn't mama really a proper noun?
Berit wrote: "I really do prefer first person, but third person is fine, I've even read some books recently and second person they were pretty darn good. But, isn't mama really a proper noun?"It's a common noun.
And I don't really have a problem with third person. But when it's combined with present tense, it bothers me. Also, I have yet to see any point of the third person since it's all from Hadley POV so far.
LOL! I guess I just don't like to think of myself as being common ;-) and it's been along time since I've been in school I had to determine whether a k noun was proper or common, to be completely honest I just googled it, LOL!
No worries. I'm still studying so...And I wouldn't call yourself commom. To your kids, you're as proper as it gets.
Chapter 7 (beginning)I like their conversations. They're fun and so are the characters. I like how the pace of the relationship is going. But then the conversations end and the narration is still the same (obviously). You'd think I'd have gotten used to it by now. It's starting to get annoying, the writing.
LOL! It's the same throughout the entire book, I'm almost done, but I don't think you're alone if you read other comments in this thread from earlier :-) cute story, I have to say
Yeah, but does the cuteness make up for the writing. There are grammatical errors and it keeps jumping from past to present to past perfect to present again and I wanna scream.
LOL! Things like that don't bother me, but you sound like my mom she is an English teacher, and she will literally get out a red pen and correct grammatical errors in the books, LOL!
Usually, I can overlook small stuff. But when something gets to me, I'm all gritting teeth, clenching hands and deep breaths for patience, the whole works. On the bright side, I think I'm getting used to the writing in this book. It took over half the book for it to happen but, better late then never, right?
I recently read a book that used improper vernacular, and it really really bothered me, and I'm not quite sure why it bothered me so much, just did!Just finished(view spoiler)
So, I ended up liking the book. The last 40% won me over and I gave it 3.5 stars. Here's my full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Chapter 1 - I'm not a fan of the slow start, but I also appreciate the charachter builfing that is occuring
No problem it'snot too long - I probably will as well I'm already on chapter 4 and i like the simplicit yof the novel. A lot of the time when I read contemporary novels I feel like the auhtor is trying to force the relationship to occur, but I don't get that at all from this novel. Relationships are just...forming, which I think goes along great with the title of the novel :)
