Well, I'm not sure when to begin with this challenge. I'm having a tough time with A.
Does anyone have any suggestions for A authors? I've never read Anne Perry or Agatha Christie? Which one do you recommend? I'm trying to broaden my authors list?
Haven't read any Ace Atkins yet. Agatha Christie is good though.
No problem. I'm kind of torn here but I may go with Ace Atkins since I do have one of his books in paperback and didn't get to it. Thanks Mark.
Same here Amy. I looked through my books. Another author to consider is Archer Mayor. His second book may be better than the first one. He writes police procedurals in a small town. They're all priced at $4.99.
For pulp fiction or hardboiled fans, you may want to look at this site for books. These books are priced at around $3.00.

Here is a thought on the reading challenge. How about this? How many book can you read in a month with the letter A? So in thinking about this, I'm going to shoot for the following authors in January.
Archer Mayor - Borderlines
Edward Aarons - Assignment the Cairo Dancers
Arnaldur Indridason - Hypothermia

Ania Ahlborn I've read four of her books, not sure if they would interest others or not. Seed
Neighbors, The
Bird Eater, The
The Shuddering

It could be whatever you want.

Amy, would you like to keep score to see who is reading the most books each month since this was your idea?
Actually, since we're going from A-Z, maybe we'll throw two letters in. A&B in January. C&D in February. This way, we can still reach Z as well even if we have three letters in two months in the end.
That sounds good! The two letters a month :) I can keep score no problem. So everyone will post when they've finished a book by an author with the letters of the month?
I would like to participate but had maybe a different suggestion. If it was a year-long or ongoing challenge, we could read different letters and fill in our challenge as the year progresses and wouldn't feel obligated to read something just because of what letter goes with a particular month. I've been working on one of these challenges for about 2 years now and still haven't gotten it all filled out yet. But, I read what books I have, also. Another thing, regarding the letter X, another group that I was in did this challenge and you could choose somebody that just had an X in their name. I think it was the same for Z, also, but I can't remember.
That's a good suggestion! I'm doing a challenge for work related reading and that's what we are doing. I'm making up my list and then whatever I have on hand is what I read and I put it in the appropriate space.
Another couple challenges that I do personally are male and female characters (two different challenges) A-Z on their last names and a 50 state challenge, where you read a book that takes place in a particular US state. These could be another challenge that would be ongoing. We could do monthly or quarterly challenges regarding certain holidays or seasons. Just throwing some stuff out there . . .

Yeah, that's what I do, also, along with the date.

Sounds good. As far as the score is concerned, I happen to read a lot of pulp fiction books and many of them are between 150 -200 pages. Ross and John MacDonald are usually over 250. So I'll let you know how many pages the book is in case you want to count books that are 150-200 pages as 1/2 a point or 3/4, depending on the length, just to be fair.

Sounds good to me as well.

All good with me.
All good with me.
OK so I'm going to try and start a thread with the reading Challenge A-Z by authors. Each person in the challenge can post their list and add and edit as it goes. Please add date finished along with number of pages for the points. I probably just add the books to my list as I'm starting to read it and then add the date and number of pages when done!
I was thinking point values. I'm trying to be fair. I'm just reading for fun so it doesn't matter to me. I've never done points so I may need help. This is what I came up with:Under 200 pages 1/2 pnt
200-300 pgs - 3/4pnt
300-500 1.25
500pgs+. -- 2pnts
Feedback please before I post to the challenge.
Thanks
Math was not my strongest subject so it's fine with me Amy since you're handling it.
Looking at your point system if you read a 300 to 500 page book you receive 1.25 points. If you read (2) 200 page books, you've read 400 pages but only receive 1 point. Maybe we could just have a point system based per page rather than a grouping of pages. Just a suggestion, this way you receive credit for all pages read.
Amy and Ron, I see the new thread to post our books. Are we reading as many books as we want to for each letter per month? After looking at the list again it looks like we are reading one book per letter. Apologize for being a PIA.
I have so many books that have been on my TBR list for so long; that I am going to try and choose books for this challenge from books already owned. Hopefully it will whittle down my unread books a bit.

That's what I'll be doing Lynn. Can't go and buy anymore with all that I have now.

I'm basically in it for reading more books. I wasn't going to add points until it was suggested :) To me the points don't really matter so I can change it if you want me too! :)I don't mind doing the per page thing.... anyone have a suggestion. Like I said I'm a newbie so bring on the suggestions LOL

Sorry that I missed this. No hard and fast rules here. My thought was that you can look at this challenge two ways. If we only read one book per letter, then the one who finishes the fast wins. I like the idea of seeing who reads the most books in a year but however you feel about this is good with me.

I don't care about counting pages or having a winner, either. The fun of it is in seeing how many books from the challenge I can finish.
Yeah me too :) So if people want they can keep score for themselves and let's just see who gets through their list and have fun with it. No pressure it's for the love of reading right? :)
