The Handmaid's Tale Discussion Question Submissions

Hi everyone! To prepare for our session 1 discussion call tentatively scheduled for May 13th we'd like to hear what questions and topics you'd like to discuss with the group!

Here are some of my ideas to start the conversation:

1) Based on the facts we can gather about how Gilead slowly introduced oppression of women in their society, how did characters such as Luke and Offred react to these changes?

2) What are the different ways women are stripped of their identities in Gilead?

3) What is the significance of the line Nolite te bastardes carborundorum?

Some more things to ponder while reading: What strategies does Gilead use to control it’s citizens, both men and women? Do you seen any parallels to governments today or in the past?
