ABANDONED. Romance / Vampires / Historical Setting. Main character is a man and is seeking revenge for his lover being turned. People are turned by having their hearts licked by a vampire.

I read this book years ago and let a friend borrow it. I've been trying to remember the title of it for a few years now to no avail.

As the topic states, it was a romance novel based around vampires and took place in the 1800s (I THINK). The main character was a man that was turned into a vampire, and his girlfriend/wife was either turned as well or killed, the details are a bit fuzzy.

The main things I do remember about it is that the vampires turned people by ripping open their ribs and licking their hearts, and at one point in the novel, the main character shape shifted into a woman for a segment.

If I can think of any other details, I will update it further.
