I have a question, do collection of novellas count towards the challenge? The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas is the book I recently finished and wondered if it counts as it is over 100 pages but it is a collection of short stories.

A collection yes (in any challenge); and this is the only challenge you're allowed to read anything under 150 pages.

Nope the year starts from your start date! So I will open you a thread and you can either do your start date today or pick a day in the recent history, but keep in mind your year end date will be based on that!
