Was Loki his own worst enemy? When he tricked the dwarves into making the great treasures for the gods, he was repaid by having his mouth sown shut, even though he saved himself from losing his head. Then, when he crafted the deal with the mountain giant about building the wall for Asgard, he was forced to become a mare to lure the giant's horse away and keep the giant from succeeding and saving his own life. Yet again, he lost in a way, as he had to become the mother of Odin's horse, Sleipnir, which he deeply resented. Loki could outwit all the other gods, but he seems to do so at his own expense. What do you think?
