The Movie: Why is there so much hate towards it?
Amber'Nay Amber'Nay Dec 26, 2014 01:28PM
I have recently watched the movie and my friends said they hated it but I loved it. It wasn't just like the book and that didn't bother me but it had its own stable plot with all the same characters and the most memorable parts from the book. This movie was entertaining and suspenseful and it didn't have to be just like the book it just had to tell its own story that portrays the book in a great way. The Giver on the other hand I hated because it had way to much narration and to many close up shots and that forced love plot between Jonas and Fionna. The movie had problems just in the movie part and what bothered me the most was that they gave the government a face. The audience didn't have to see someone who is part of the government to know that the government is bad. The Maze Runner was just was entertaining as the book and I hate it when people knit pick little details - I use to be like that but after watching The Maze Runner I really do believe that there are great movies that were based off of books. Why do people hate this movie if all it does is portray a great book in a great way wit the same characters and the same setting, yes there are some difference but does it deserve all this hate when it is still a great movie on its own?

I agree The Giver was horrible and that the Maze Runner was great. People are just less open minded about movie adaptions than other people. Also, it has to be different because they need more audience members more variety.

I enjoyed the movie, I'm not going to lie. However, I was annoyed due to the fact that they added a lot of different elements to the movie that DID NOT even the SLIGHEST happened in the book. And I hate how they changed the way Gally kills Chuck. I MEAN SERIOUSLY?? changing what happened was so unnecessary. I also was annoyed that the whole telepathy thing wasn't included in the movie either, however I suppose it would have been a little weird so I guess that's understandable. BUT EVERYTHING ELSE? WHY??????????????????????????????????

Overall, I still enjoyed the movie. And lets face it, Dylan O'Brien was a super babe!

The books were great - sure they started slow but then they really got into the action after that. There was a lot of things in the movie that were different to the book. But the actor of Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) made up for it.

The movie inspired me to read the books.

I have to agree, initially I was peeved that the movie deviated somewhat drastically from the book. However, as I continued to watch, I became a bit impressed. The Maze Runner was filled with things that would have been difficult/expensive/time-consuming to construct/shoot/pull off. So really, you have to take them as two separate entities. The book was incredible; the movie was actually quite decent. They happen to share a bit of a similar plot line and a title and characters. But definitely don't expect them to be the same, because you will be sorely disappointed. For those of you who are disappointed, take my advice, and separate them into two very distinct categories of something. Because most movies from books will inevitably let you down.

I haven't actually heard much hate towards the movie... well at least who i've talked to.
I think there's more hate towards other movies, honestly.

^ hey man that's not true and you know it.

I didn't enjoy the movie either because

>>They changed WICKED to WCKD
>>The medicine for a grieved sting was discovered in the movie, and it just made me confused
>>Grievers look nothing like they were described in the book
>>The whole book is about the gladers trying to get out of the maze, and the ending in the book is completely changed

Hopefully it'll be like hunger games, and they'll get a new director and the second movie will be better.

Emma The Grievers scared me more in the movie, because they look like spiders and I HATE spiders :o

Yes there are many differences, but they were all good. They made sense, they fit, and they still did the book justice. I loved this movie, I've seen it about 20 times, and I cannot wait to go pick the DVD up from the post office where it's waiting for me :)

And all you people crying about the changes, grow up! Shit happens, let it be.

I was really hesitant to watch the Maze Runner because of all the hate on it, but I ended up watching it with the rest of my family. We all really enjoyed it. It was entertaining, interesting, and ended perfectly for a sequel. But, I also really enjoyed The Giver. I felt like the narration was a good thing because of all the aspects of the book.

I'm going to admit, it wasn't the book. But it was a good movie- as I say about most book-to-movie adaptations, the movie is good on its own, if you don't read the book.

Because people can't accept that the movie made several changes. The Maze Runner is my favorite YA novel ever, and I thought the movie was actually pretty good. Why can't everyone just accept that a book-movie adaptation will never be exactly the same as the book? Most of the changes the director made were actually better for the movie (i.e., telepathy. It's cool in the book, but probably would've been cheesy and pointless). I completely agree with what you said, Amber'Nay.

And for all you haters out there, just suck it up, and realize that it was still a great movie, regardless if there was several changes. The movie still did the book justice.

I love the maze runner and the movie so much! It's heart stopping and it is really good. So all you haters you should keep your opinions to yourself.!

I just finished the book and I really want to watch the movie. Is it just me or is the guy who plays Thomas REALLY cute!!!!!

Because they didn't put all that "solving the maze" parts. The movie was so basic.

i liked the movie but i loved the book there were so many changes but i guess most people who would go just to see it haven't read the book before the 1st movies in the series is basically made to get people interested in the main plot of the series i disliked how it was so different from the book i think the book was so many times better hopefully when the scorch trials come out it will be more like the book i myself was confused on how or if they will try to fit in Thomas and Teresa being able to communicate in scorch trails cause it does make the 2nd book easier to understand what is happening during all of it but other than most of the changes in the movie i loved the movie hopefully scorch trials will be more like the book :)

my friends said that they hated it although not all of them
in the first part of the movie i enjoyed it A LOT. i actually loved it until it got to the ending.
why i love/hate the maze runner (movie) is because of the ending where it says: time them to challenge test 2 or something like that. i think that was the closest one that i can remember

The book was so much better than the movie. so completly diffrent the main part of that book was the gladers trying to get out of the maze that was the main point and main thing that happend yet when they made the movie they changed the whole idea of how they got out and the hole teresa and thomas thing was messed up too it was like watching a total diffrent story. it was stupid and it didnt explain very well the director changed the whole thing thats why theres so much hate. but his pick on characters was on point couldnt off gotten any better. LOVE NEWT AND THOMAS :) i really hope the director will learn from his mistake and just follow the book for the scorch trials

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I absolutely LOVE the books! The movies aren't always as good as the books, so that's a disappointment. I haven't heard any hatred toward either the books or the movies.

I haven't heard of any hatred towards the movie.

I'm sort of ambivalent about the movie. Honestly, I think that if I hadn't of read the books, I would've thought the movie was great. The characters were okay, aside from the horrendously-underdeveloped Teresa, and the plot was okay, and the action was actually pretty great in my opinion. But when I compare it to the book, there were a bunch of details I wish they could've added in to make the story flow better and possibly make more sense for sequels. Of course there's only so much detail you can add in a movie and I completely understand that. I just wish they made the Gladers discover the key to the maze like they did in the movie. I also wish that they developed Teresa more.

I love the movie but it was a lot different than the book.

I didn't at all like the maze runner, as a book and a movie. I feel like they changed to many things in the movie. In reality though this movie sucked.

To answer the question:
Because this book is profoundly boring. Just running in a maze, nothing more than that.
