Hi New Providence!

Let's take a break from the dystopian sci-fi novel that's our current reality and talk about what we've been reading!

I am racing through Ann Patchett's The Dutch House - the story of two siblings, and their relationship with the parents they lost -- with a villainness you'll love to hate.
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett The Day the World Came to Town 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland by Jim DeFede
The book group is listening to The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland. It's the story of how a small town came together to take care of stranded airline passengers after 9/11 shut down air traffic into the United States.

You can download the free audiobook for the Hoopla Digital app here: https://www.hoopladigital.com/title/1...
Let me know if you want to attend the discussion by phone/video conference on May 7.

The library has added ebook suggestions to http://www.newprovidencelibrary.org (just click on Books and look under Recommendations)

Kate | 2 comments James Michener’s Hawaii. My first Michener. I’m only on page 145 of 1,095 so I’m really just starting to get to the meat. Its slow at first but is starting to build. He’s an incredible writer with an amazing vocabulary.

Stacey Maisch (fromgrindtowhine) | 1 comments I’m listening to “The Secret, Book, and Scone Society,” by Ellery Adams. It’s one of the Hoopla Bonus Borrows audiobooks and it is FANTASTIC!!! The storyline is an intriguing mystery being solved by a group of local women in a small town, one of whom owns a book shop. My favorite thing about this book is that the shop owner recommends wonderful lists of books to read to various people in town. Each list is a To-Read gift, and I often want to jot down the titles she rattles off as I listen.

On paper, I’m reading “Dewey, the Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World,” by Vicki Myron. It’s the perfect feel-good true story to help me wind down at the end of another crazy day living in dystopia.

Marilyn | 143 comments I recently read "The Dutch House" and liked it. I just finished reading "The Redhead By the Side of the Road", the new book by Anne Tyler. Short but enjoyable book. I just wished it had not ended so abruptly because I wanted more!
And, before that, I finally got around to taking "The Silent Patient" off my bookshelf and glad I did! Never saw that ending coming!
Just recently started to listen to "Goodnight from London" by Jennifer Robson on my HOOPLA app.

Kate | 2 comments Thanks! It’s definitely a long book and I borrowed it from the library so it’s just as well I have an extended time to read it. :) I’ve finished two sections of the book (the formation of the islands, and the arrival of the Bora Boreans - fascinating and courageous). The next couple sections are much longer. I’m starting to get more drawn in. Love a good epic but I need to psyche myself up for them sometimes.

Sangeeta | 156 comments hi all.

listening to "the day the world came to town" for book club. very well researched and moving

if you're in the mood for something funny during these homebound days, i listened to both "dad is fat" and "food , a love story" in the past few months (by Jim Gaffigan. ) hilarious, especially as read BY him.

the disappearance of Adele Bedeaux was was a good tight read, if you like scandanavian mystery type books.

wow, i just finished "push" by sapphire (remember the movie Precious about 10 years ago> heartbreaking but inspiring too.

starting "Before & After... real life stories of orphans who survived the tennessee children's home society" (same author as Before We Were Yours)
