It seems the only way to her heroine's heart is for these men to open a vein and pour out their souls and deepest secrets. In this case, Lorelai really needed to know what had happened to change Ash from the boy who was so kind to her to the renegade pirate he became.
In this instance, I didn't feel that I got enough to fill those missing twenty years that he was gone.
Charlene, having some idea of what happened to him while in bondage would have helped see how he became The Rook. We were left having to use our imagination of what happened in between.
I think it’s a formula for these men because it’s the only thing that explains the women’s attraction to them. They have to see more than the brutality of these men.

Good point, Jonetta. The heroines need something to fall in love with other than the violence that these men have in their lives. They need to know that there is a good man under all of that brutality.
It does seem that the heroines in this series need to see who deep down the man is that they have fallen in love with. I agree, Robin. They need to know that even though they may be brutal and seem uncaring, there is a good man at the core.
Yes, it does seem that all of these heroes have to open up and become the men they should be in order to win their ladies. I enjoyed the similarities between Ash's and Dorian's stories.
