Michael Martin | 3 comments Fiction novel of about 200 pages.

It is set in Afghanistan or maybe Pakistan. It begins with a child who is orphaned. His parents were killed because their mariage was frowned upon by his mother's family, who is chief of the village or tribe?

The child grows up living with different families, for a time with a police officer. Later he takes a wife.

He makes a living as a hired hit man I think or bartering goods. The story line ends during the period of the Afghan War.

It also describes life before the countries existes where nomadic lifestyle existed. Tribes would travel to summer grounds and then to winter grounds. After the partitioning of the countries in the Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Persian regions, life became more difficult without proper documents.

The author wrote this book when he was in his eighties. This was his first book! The authors name was sounded Arabic. And I think he was originally from the area the story takes place. I believe the book was originally written in English.

I think it was written in the last twenty years (I found it last year at a book sale).

The Honest Book Reviewer (thehonestbookreviewer) | 3 comments I think you're after the novel Caravans, by James A Michener. I read this a few years back.
