Hello everyone! It’s Becca here to discuss with you, about chapters 1-10 of Love, Life, and the List. I might have read ahead...you can’t go wrong with Kasie West! I stopped myself once I hit chapter 12 because I have to remember all of this. Anyway, let’s discuss! How are you liking this book so far? Meh or Yay? I would definitely say yay. As the reader, you follow Abby Turner through her average teen life. She is in a tight friendship circle consisting of three other friends, Rachel, Justin, and most importantly...Cooper or Coop. Abby had a huge crush on Cooper, but ever since he laughed her off about her feelings toward him the summer before, she hasn’t felt as much liking towards Cooper. During the first chapter, we learn about Cooper’s legend-like quad racing on sand dunes and Abby’s life as an artist. For fun or just for the sake of it, Abby and Cooper ask each other “Would You Rather?” questions about some pretty quirky things. Rachel, (Abby’s best friend) is going away for the summer to Europe with her parents and Justin is doing service in South America. Rachel doesn’t want to go on the trip, and would rather spend her summer with her friends, Cooper and Abby, unfortunately she doesn’t have a choice. In chapter two, not a lot happened. We also learn that Abby likes teasing her grandpa, her dad is always traveling, and her mom is obsessed with internet stories. Abby works at a museum and there’s a showcase coming up, which she wants to be a part of, but you have to be 18. She is hoping that her boss, Mr. Wallace will accept her anyway. Chapter three crushes Abby’s world with the news that she cannot be in the showcase. Not only because of her age, he basically said to her “You need more experience...you need a heart.” She obviously felt sad and offended by this, as would I, but I know what Mr. Wallace meant. She needs meaning and depth in her paintings, she needs experience with new things. Going into Chapter 4, Abby is working on a painting for one of Cooper’s races, to support him. Afterward, Abby and Cooper’s family celebrate his winning by going out for dinner. Nothing too interesting...until chapter 5. Abby doesn’t want to tell Cooper about what happened with Mr. Wallace. Maybe she would never tell him. Elliot, a boy from school, (also their waiter) is into Abby, but Abby isn’t interested. Cooper so ships it. What are your thoughts on Elliot? Would you date him? Cooper’s family starts talking about Abby’s art. She feels uncomfortable toward the subject. She eventually has to tell them that Mr. Wallace said no to her being in the showcase. Cooper changes the subject because he knows that it was bothering Abby. After dinner, Cooper and Abby walk to the pier. Cooper practically forces “what really happened”(the whole story) out of Abby. Then Abby starts to cry. Coop, of course comforts her. Chapter 6, Abby can find no inspiration in any of her pictures in her art room. Her mom and grandpa discuss what happened with Mr. Wallace and come up with a list of things that Abby has to do to find the depth she needs for her artwork. Abby was a little worried, but she decided that this is what she needed. Moving on to chapter seven...In this chapter, we find Abby emailing her dad about the list she created. Cooper comes over to her house and they chat about the list + her artwork as well. Abby and Cooper decide that they are going to complete the list together over the summer. So, on that note, Cooper begs Abby to complete the “face a fear” box by riding with him on the sand dunes. Abbys disagrees at first, but eventually gives in. While on the back of Cooper’s vehicle, Abby gets really scared. Would you have agreed to ride on the sand dunes? Why or why not? Cooper obviously enjoys this, he takes her out for a milkshake, like he promised. Abby wants to get her revenge, so she is going to make him face a fear. Now, chapter eight awaits! Since Abby’s legs are sore, she rides on the back of Cooper. As they are walking through town to Abby’s house, she sees a flyer to try out for a musical at their school. She wants to check off the “new experience box”, so she decides that her and Cooper are trying out. He disagrees at first. Then, she convinces him to try out with her. At home, Abby tells her mom that she is going to the library to check out classic books. In chapter nine, Abby meets a girl from her school at the library and they have a nice conversation. The girl’s name is Lacey Barnes and she is the lead in most of their school’s plays. Abby picks out two books, one for her and one for Cooper. Cooper texts her, wanting her to save him from his parent’s BBQ. Abby calls him and pretends that her car broke down. Then, Cooper comes over to her house and they read their books. Chapter 10: The next day, Cooper and Abby are also reading their books at Abby’s house and switch books after a while. Then, they have dinner. Abby “throws” her sarcastic comments at her grandpa, as usual and they discuss the sand dune riding. After dinner, they all walk to the park and do what families do at a park, (lol). That’s basically the end. I hope you all enjoyed Chapter 1-10 of Love, Life, and the List. Don’t forget to read 11-15 today!

Here are some discussion questions for each chapter:
-Chapter 1: If you were Rachel, would you rather spend a summer with your parents in Europe or with your friends at home? If you were Abby, would you have a crush on Cooper? Would you have told Cooper that you had a crush on him? Why?

-Chapter 2: Are you as outgoing as Abby is with her art with another hobby? If so, what hobby/obsession? Do you enjoy teasing a family member, like Abby does to her grandpa? Which person in your family?

-Chapter 3: Would you have felt as crushed as Abby did when Mr. Wallace turned her down? Why or why not?

-Chapter 4: Do you like to paint? Do you like art?

-Chapter 5: If you were in Abby’s shoes, would you tell Cooper what happened with Mr. Wallace? Why or why not? What are your thoughts on Elliot? Would you date him?

-Chapter 6: Would you complete anything on Abby’s list? If so, what would you choose to do?

-Chapter 7: Would you have agreed to ride on the sand dunes with Cooper? Why or why not? Would you want to get revenge on Cooper?

-Chapter 8: Would you ever audition for a play? Why or why not?

-Chapter 9: Are you shy when meeting new people? Would you have been shy talking to Lacey Barnes?

-Chapter 10: No questions…...Did you like this chapter?

Random questions: How would you describe Abby’s character? (her personality) Who is your favorite character so far and why? Who is your least favorite character so far and why? Which character would you date and why? Are you enjoying the book so far? Comment below any other questions you think would be good to discuss and answers to some of the questions I asked!

Happy reading!

It’s not too hard to get caught up in a Kasie a West novel! If you manage your time for school work, maybe you could read a little more than 5 chapters day😊. Just a thought🤔
