Searching from a book from my childhood. I remember it being a small taller and thinner than average cardboard hardcover which has purple on the edges. The cover has a group of children on a rollercoaster on it. The story is about a group of older children exploring the park and weird things happening. I think the title was something like white knuckle or thriller ride.

Maybe Thrill Ride! by Eric Weiner? It came up searching WorldCat. It was published in 1996.Tagging along when a gang of older kids sneak into Playland amusement park, Annie is delighted when they get the huge roller coaster to work and becomes terrified when it stops upside-down at the top of the highest loop.
