I read this early to mid '80s. Early in the book, he has trouble moving as he doesn't realize he's so fast. After he adjusts, he enters a boxing match, and he gets into other types of scenarios that he tests out his new quickness

In my brain, I seem to recall it being called: Nerve, but Google search doesn't return what I remember about the book.

I remember this book and I think you're correct that the title is Nerve.

Maybe Nerve? I can't find any detail, but at least there are boxing gloves on the cover of this edition.

Edit: Oh yeah, that has to be it. It's available on the Internet Archive and it has the front inside cover blurb.

Part of the issue is that the book is now old enough, the title alone isn't much help in a search. SamSpayedPL above was a big help! Having the name of the author was the missing piece of this puzzle.
