Alissa | 161 comments Are we going to get our first task early?

Linda | 234 comments hmm I dont know. MK said if everyone checks in, we might. But I dont think everyone checked in..

message 57: by Linda (new)

Linda | 234 comments I love Amazing Race. When I was a child, my mum begged my dad (who lives in america) to send us dvds of american reality tv. This was before internet streaming was remotely a thing.. and also this was back then when anything american was absolutely cool. My dad had no idea about reality tv so he just sent what was popular back then. (2003-ish) and it was a season of survivor, the amazing race and 'the surreal life'. I watched that amazing race season infinite amount of times.

I never kept up with it hardcore though. Its not as accessible to stream in europe. When I find a way I love to binge on a random season. But overall its just a lovely childhood memory.

message 58: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2514 comments I prefer to binge a show rather then tune in weekly.
Lovely childhood memory, Linda!

Laura | 2514 comments Looks like four teams are still waiting on players to check in

Linda | 234 comments Thanks for thinking of this, Laura!

I will put this in one of the top posts once we gathered all info so we can find it easier.

I was born in the 90s.
The colors on my to read are mostly Blue.
Home Town is Vienna! This could work with a lot of books. But I have to check if there are enough English ones.
Birth Month: April

Is woman/man considered 'item'? I thought maybe we could do jewelry too. But dress sounds good. I planned on continuing The Selection series.. it already helped me out in Tower Teams LOL (BTW it was confirmed this will be a Netflix show?? Interesting to see how that turns out)

profession: I would say police officer sounds pretty good. I throw in doctor too.

Joined RRRC: 2020
Recommendations:
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black The One by John Marrs

message 62: by Linda (new)

Linda | 234 comments Okay so I found two spy thrillers (?) set in Vienna that sound good. A Death in Vienna and To Die in Vienna.
I am currently trying to find some romance books too but that search is a bit harder. I may continue looking tomorrow!

There are definitely a lot of German classics set in Vienna but I believe they are quite bland in translation ... but they exist for emergencies. But I hope Geri and Alissas hometowns prove to be more fruitful...?

message 63: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 161 comments I was born in the 80s
Hometown: Delray Beach, FL
joined Goodreads in 2011
birth month: December
No opinion on the cover items I will have to find something to fit whatever it is. Most of my books don't have things on the cover

Color covers: I probably have a few green, blue, and maybe red

Profession: adding to the list lawyer, teacher, nurse, paramedic

I have to think about some recommendations. I will come up with some tonight.

message 64: by Linda (last edited Apr 12, 2020 02:38PM) (new)

Linda | 234 comments OK I did skim through the ATW group shelf of Austria and did find some more in various categories. I picked the ones that explicitly say that they are set mainly in Vienna and sound interesting.
The Musician's Daughter
The English Girl
Wait for Me in Vienna
City of Ghosts
How to Fall In Love with a Man Who Lives in a Bush

Ok now I am off to bed, though! Hope we get our first task tomorrow!! And I will take care of the top post when I get up.

message 65: by Geri (new)

Geri | 639 comments Decade born in - 70’s

I’ll post recommendations in another post. I have to think about it.

message 66: by Geri (last edited Apr 12, 2020 03:24PM) (new)

message 67: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2514 comments It was definitely hard to pick a few... I tried to do the same- a mix of genres.

message 68: by Laura (last edited Apr 12, 2020 03:27PM) (new)

Laura | 2514 comments I updated post #60 with everyone's answers- minus the recommendations!

Linda you are an April baby! Upcoming or past?

At least it gives us a baseline to start somewhere. We know we would all prefer a blue cover book if we get that task.

Good night Linda!

message 69: by Geri (new)

Geri | 639 comments Thanks for searching for books set in Vienna, Linda! I found a few and bookmarked them. In case we do get that task.

MountainKat | 31755 comments Task 1 - ALL TEAMS!!

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.

Ready, Set, GO!

message 71: by Laura (last edited Apr 12, 2020 08:48PM) (new)

Laura | 2514 comments First task is up. I know Linda is asleep but do we want to use Penelope Douglas for this task as we all said we could find something by her to read and Linda can confirm in the morning?

Just a reminder that books need to be more than 150 pages.

Or do we want to go with Penny Reid? Amy Harmon? James Patterson? Lynnette Eason? Ha the list is endless:-) Is there a series by an author that anyone wanted to start?

message 72: by Geri (new)

Geri | 639 comments We should probably stick with authors we know we can all get. I reread Alissa and Linda’s messages and they can get Penelope Douglas and Penny Reid. I am great with either. I have a book I want to read by both.

Let’s vote.

Which do you want to read most? I will vote for Penelope Douglas. But I won’t be unhappy with Penny Reid. (I know, I’m not much help!)

message 73: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 161 comments I vote for Penelope Douglas!🤓

message 74: by Linda (new)

Linda | 234 comments Penelope Douglas it is!! YAY first task!!!!

And my birthday is tomorrow!! (14th) Hehe
It will be really different, I am used to celebrate easter and my birthday together with family. And since its easter its usually a LOT of food. To make up for it my boyfriend and I will bake 2 cakes Hahaha

message 75: by Linda (new)

Linda | 234 comments Ok I edited some of the top posts. my first one will be where I list all the tasks and what we agreed on. second post is just info gathering post so we don't have to skim the thread for what we wrote about certain tasks.

So about the recommendations, what was that for? is it for other teams? What task was that? Should I put it up there?

message 76: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2514 comments The recommendations was for options for task #21 in case we get that.

Happy birthday Linda! It does suck that you won't get to celebrate with your family like you are used to- I like your alternate plan!

message 77: by Linda (new)

Linda | 234 comments Ahh okay!! Missed that task. Then I will add some to the top post.

I already started reading Birthday Girl!! (I was hoping its the least dark) I am so curious as to how I will like it Haha!! But so far, the writing is really enjoyable!!

message 78: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2514 comments I've started Punk 57.

message 79: by Geri (new)

Geri | 639 comments Happy Birthday, Linda! Enjoy the cake! What kind are you making? Of course, I love just about any cake.

Laura - I want to read Punk 57 too. Someone recommended that book. She said it was her favorite by Douglas. I may read that or continue with the Corrupt series. Decisions! Decisions!

message 80: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 161 comments We don’t have to wait until tomorrow to start reading?

message 81: by Geri (new)

Geri | 639 comments Alissa wrote: "We don’t have to wait until tomorrow to start reading?"

No. Once the task was posted, the race started.

Geri | 639 comments Laura wrote: "Geri, I'm 36% in...lots of high school angst."

You are getting through quickly! I decided to continue the Corrupt series, Hideaway. It’s definitely continuing the sexy, dark vibe.

message 84: by Linda (new)

Linda | 234 comments I'm really happy about the Penelope Douglas recommendation!! I didn't think I would enjoy it so much. I have to force myself going to bed now or I would read all night probably LOL

message 85: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2514 comments Nice, glad you are enjoying your book Linda. Mine is a train wreck....but I can't help but like it. It's set in a high school but then everything else is definitely adult content with a big dose of steamy heat.

LOL, Laura! This must be the author’s MO. Lots of emotion and heat. My series is more new adult, though.

message 89: by Linda (new)

Linda | 234 comments Just a quick check in guys! I did continue reading today but I did not get quite as much as I hoped.. but I am about halfway through! I will be done on Thursday at the latest, I think. Hope its still okay we are taking things ~slow. (I don't think thats that slow but I saw some teams finished after not even 24 hours Hahaha)

message 90: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2514 comments They picked shorter books :-) The rest of us will either keep reading to finish our books or start a new one while we wait!

message 91: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 161 comments I’m just as slow because work was awful yesterday but it was better today so I’m about to workout and spend the rest of the night reading!

So far I’m intrigued 🤓

message 92: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2514 comments Which one are you reading Alissa?

message 93: by Geri (new)

Geri | 639 comments I’m not done with my book yer either. With the other challenges I am part of, I probably won’t finish too quickly for any of the tasks. I just want to have fun. It will be interesting to see what task we get next!
