I like a lot of her stuff, but that series does start out kind of hard to follow. It gets better as the series goes on, mostly because you get to know the characters so it doesn't feel as scattered. I'm enjoying her current series (The Wildes of Lindow Castle) more than I did the Desperate Duchesses series, but my absolute favorite of hers is When Beauty Tamed the Beast...and now that I'm thinking about it I just might need to plan a reread - it's been a lot of years since I read it!

message 303: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I've had the first one in that series on my TBR for a while. Maybe I'll give that a try and see if it works better for me.

message 304: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments The first one was good, but the second one was better. 😀 And FYI, the books are totally unrelated (except for the "in between" novellas), so can be read in any order...and that's coming from someone who is extremely obsessive about reading series books in order!

message 305: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Oh that's good to know! I'm the same way about reading things in order. The only reason I started the psy-changeling series was to get to Kiss of Snow, and I still haven't made it there yet 🤣!

Sarah, will you please change your link and page count to this version: [*book:The Heart of Devin MacKade|11732545] (just remove the asterisk to have a valid link). The page count is 242. Kat wants the original Kindle version page count and the one you gave is for a later edition. Thanks!

Chan | 5093 comments lol me too.

message 315: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments The writing is just fantastic. It was my first book by this author, and I really love her style. She does the characters so well! Has kind of a Meredith Duran feel.

MountainKat | 31683 comments Here is Task 9:

62. Read 6 books published in a teammates' birth month, you may not use your own month.

Please provide the teammate's name and birth month in your qualification.

Chan | 5093 comments i should be good for two books.
Getting started :o)

message 320: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments That's what I get for going to bed early (tend to be a bit of a night owl at times)...could have been all set up by now!

I can probably do 2 books also.

message 321: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Soooo, I've been reading Jagged by KA. Yep, reading, not listening. A bit of an anomaly.

I know many people have issues with KA, but I am a fan. However, this one is bothering me. I feel like a pendulum - one moment I like it, the next moment I want to dnf. So far I have enjoyed the books in this series; Lady Luck my favorite by far. It's like someone else wrote parts of this one.

So, giving you a heads up. I'm either going to speed read just to get through it or this is going to take me until tomorrow night or Sunday morning.

I can usually read a KA book in less than a day b/c i get so caught up in the story...this one, not so much.

message 322: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments KA is very hit or miss for me. I either finish her book in a day or take forever to get through it.

message 323: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I found a 175 page book published in April, so I could probably do two as well if needed.

Courtney | 2931 comments I'm not sure if I messed up the last one or not. The Kindle Edition that I linked was published in March, but was I supposed to go by original publication date instead? If so, I just finished up another book with an original publication date in April, so I could switch them out.

I don't know. I just asked in the Q&A thread and Kat is often online around this time, so hopefully she'll answer fairly soon.

message 332: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Ok. I was confused because I know we're using Kindle Editions for page counts. In any case, I'll post my second book too since it's after midnight here and I'm about to turn in. I'll just cross out whichever one we can't use tomorrow.

message 335: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments She said it should be original publication date, but if she didn't specify, she'll make consessions this time. So up to you guys what you want to do.

message 339: by MountainKat, Moderator (last edited May 11, 2020 07:35PM) (new)

MountainKat | 31683 comments Yes, it was my fault about the initial publication date mix up. Though I probably would have allowed your book anyway because the original publication date on the edition list was the one you used even though there was that odd paperback with over a million pages. 🤔 Sometimes when I am assigning tasks, especially late at night and it was quite late when I assigned your last one, my mind goes blank as to what other details I need to include! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I know this task well though - here is Task 10:

69. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.

Professions such as law enforcement officer or musician are fine. Just don't try to pass off both a rancher and a chef as in the food industry - they are just too far apart. Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count!

message 340: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited May 11, 2020 07:43PM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments Ok, we need to agree on a profession! 😁 Here's the list from earlier in the thread that had been suggested: Athlete, Firefighter, Lawyer, Vet, Security, Teacher, Law Enforcement. Any other suggestions?

For me I think Law Enforcement or Athlete would be the easiest, but I'm sure I could find something for any of them without too much trouble.

message 341: by Courtney (last edited May 11, 2020 08:20PM) (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I have tons of athlete books, so that would be the easiest for me. Military, firefighter, or musician would be my next choices.

message 342: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Hi Team. My preferences are:

Military
Law Enforcement
Athlete
Teacher
Security
Lawyer

message 343: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments So military and athlete are the top choices? Any preference between those two?

Courtney wrote: "So military and athlete are the top choices? Any preference between those two?"

Military would work better for me :)

message 345: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments That works for me. I still have When Danger Bites (Bravo Team WOLF, #1) by Heather Long ready on my eReader from the top romance list challenge.

message 346: by [deleted user] (last edited May 12, 2020 06:05AM) (new)

I have this one to read :)

Cowboy SEAL Homecoming (Navy SEAL Cowboys, #1) by Nicole Helm

message 347: by Courtney (last edited May 12, 2020 06:12AM) (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments That sounds really cute! Maybe I should switch 🤔

Oh, wait! Would his job be cowboy, though? It says they're out of the SEALs

Shoot... I didn't realize that. Ok, off to see what else I can find.

Courtney | 2931 comments For athlete, I've got Ryker (Cold Fury Hockey, #4) by Sawyer Bennett and The Hardest Route by A.S. Teague
